What pedal/effect/gizmo would you never be without?
My Dwarfcraft Shiva and Ibanez AD-9.

If you don't feel like you're missing out, then you're probably not. It wouldn't hurt to try a few effects though. I'd suggest starting with an overdrive, then maybe look into an octaver.

It's a slippery slope :). Come to the dark side... go on... do it.

Start using effects then realise I don't need them. Go back to a bass-lead-amp then start to think that I need effects and so the vicious circle continues

Think if my amp weren`t to have an on-board compressor, that wd be the only pedal, aside from tuner, that I wd use. I have a tendency to hit the bass rather hard at times, and compression just helps to stop the volume going over the top. It also tidies up each note nicely, ensuring that I`m on the beat, and that I don`t get sloppy when playing - not that I`ve ever been tempted, of course.

I have a significant number of pedals but the ones i wouldn't leave at home are my tuner (korg pitchblack) and my compressor (ebs multicomp) but i think i would still bring my auto-wah (3leaf audio) to funky things up.
