stingrayPete1977
After getting my pre EB earlier this year the missing string mute was bugging me a little bit..... I decided to give the whole bass a strip down, Clean and removed the remaining mutes. (Note the original finish and earlier style pup route that does not follow the pup shape!) [attachment=72887:original_finish.JPG] Then using these and a little patience with a new stanley knife blade and the old mutes to copy.....(strange name "kit tampons"? but only 59p) [attachment=72888:foam_pads.JPG] Has now become this. [attachment=72912:mutes_.JPG] And not one penny to Big Poppa either which is the cherry on top! This is still the cleanest pre EB I have seen on BC too, Happy and Bunny you might say. Ou7shined
Cool and the gang. Tampon is French for rubber stamp btw. Did you not try the EB forum for some? There was a guy offering a '83 bridge in a crappy state but he had the unused mutes to go along with it a couple of months back. He was after something ridiculous like £100 for the bridge which was way too much but I bet he would have sold the mute separate for a couple of bob. stingrayPete1977
I do not frequent the EB forum to be honest,Do you think I should get on or is it just a bunch of MM lovers slagging off anything else?I know some of the concerns about BP obviously Tampons...........Ha.......makes a change from a mouse mat though. Ou7shined
Not so much slagging everything off, as just not thinking about anything else. You'd fit in nicely.

stingrayPete1977
Edit to say there have been some cleaner Rays than mine on BC since I posted this. Still cool as though
Foxx
I used jazz bass pickup mounting foam on my '77, it's about the right dimensions and has a self adhesive backing, so just cut it to length. Works a treat!
stingrayPete1977
The new ones on my Classic are moving around so I might have to try that, the ones on your 82 I presume are still the ones I made?
Foxx
They must be, in very good shape too.
stingrayPete1977
Such a nice Stingray that 82, and light too, almost certainly a body made by charvel as it was shaped really nicely IMO and the book matched grain on the back etc, stonking bass
Foxx
Its is! Noticably lighter than my '77 too.
stingrayPete1977
The 79 was handy for knocking in fence posts but it did sound great, I could and did play that 82 for hours on end at some function gigs, so comfy.
