allighatt0r Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 I saw a fat guy playing bass for the latest pop sensation or something the other day, his tone was really deep and rich. Clear but muddy. Know what I'm saying? Quote

thisnameistaken Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 The bass player for The Beat the other week was a pretty round-looking dude and he had way better tone than me. Quote
AndyTravis Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 I shove my fingers into Cumberland sausages before every gig and recording session they're Line 6 modelling Sausages. Quote
AndyTravis Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 If the Modelling suags gets too muddies, i use lighter strings...more girth in the midrange. Quote

geoffbyrne Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 I make my fingers fatter by beating them with a hammer. I find steel hammers give me a better tone than cast iron, but the best of the lot is the tone given to my fingers by beating them with a rubber-covered mallet. G. Quote
JTUK Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 Well, that has stuffed some people, for sure! It is the internet, isn't it? Quote
Fat Rich Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 (edited) Despite weighing slightly over a metric tonne my fingers don't seem to get fat, all that happens is my bass gets further away and I need longer arms. I sometimes get a fatter tone by playing less with my fingertips where the callouses are but with my picking hand flatter to the bass using the fleshier part of my fingers.... if I want a really fat sound I use both fingers simultaneously as it helps to deaden the harmonic overtones of the string a little. And of course pluck closer to the neck than the bridge. Edited September 9, 2010 by Fat Rich Quote
cheddatom Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 you think fat fingers sound good? You should try playing with your cock! Quote

Delberthot Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 Have you ever seen Nathan East's fingers close up? I bought his instructional VHS video back in the day and he has really wide finger tips. I'm a big chap but my tone is quite trebly so I think you're talking utter kochwurst Quote

SteveK Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010
Have you ever seen Nathan East's fingers close up?
Yep, held them in my hand only a few weeks back...can't say I noticed anything unusual about his fingers. But I was rather preoccupied with the fact that he had his leg in plaster Quote
