bubinga5
i hate to diss anyones playing, i really do.. but i spotted this and just thought ..overplaying... if you check out the rest of his vids.. this guys playing is spot on... maybe he had taken some nose candy? MIJ-VI
His playing sounds fine to me. His enthusiastic approach would likely sound more even through an amp or an amp simulator. But that can be said of many bassists.
bubinga5
maybe it because his sound is front of the mix...for me enthusiasm and overplaying sometimes go hand in hand...too many fills for the groove for me..just my opinion
MIJ-VI
I dig. Here's an example of a less busy & rounder-toned approach: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1mG9D6H00v8
Fat Rich
A bit too busy for my ears, if he started a bit simpler and built up to it towards the end of the song I would have liked it more. Clearly a good player otherwise though.
SteveK
Don't see anything wrong with that. Just too high in the mix, that's all.
3V17C
maybe a little busy yeah, but overall i quite like it - he can clearly play and is enjoying himself! peace c

Faithless
Well, you can't beat his chops, but about overplaying thing.. He wouldn't get Jamiroquai gig, I think, and that's enough..
chris_b
He get's paid by the note.
Chris2112
I quite liked it, a busy approach which adds some interest to an otherwise fairly dull song. I turned off the "Too Young To Die" video after about 30 seconds.
chris_b
The guy's plainly overplaying. All those "extra" notes don't really add anything. Listen to Paul Turner playing this number on the Live at Abbey Road session. Much nicer, cleaner playing. Even if it was down in the mix, it takes away from the song.
risingson
Agreed it's overplaying, the notes are all there and nothings particularly 'wrong' about it but I think he's missed the point quite a bit considering the original bass line Nick Fyffe put down was a lot more grounded. bubinga5
its strange because the rest of his vids are really spot on like the Simply Red basslines....
umph
i think he gets a great groove going on, you wouldn't hear half of the ghost notes if it was a bit lower in the mix and it wouldn't sound as busy
chris_b
I haven't got time to check any other numbers right now but he absolutely destroys Street Life.
kevbass
I liked it and I think he gets away with the busy bass line because its Jamiroquai.

But you see it all the time a player gets a bit of chops and it turns into the Gimpolympics ! Good player but needs to let the groove breath. What is there and what you think is there is often very different...particularly when it comes to bass.
Rayman
I have no problem with him, I like his playing, and I like his tone. Overplayed? Maybe a bit, but I like it.
