desh
I'm thinking of having a dabble with one of these. Has anyone tried the current re-issue and is it any good? Also is the earlier reissue (90s?) better and should I try to find one of the earlier ones. I'm thinking that an original is gonna be quite pricey, and might not sound/play that much better than the reissues? Hmmm
Cat Burrito
I did some sessions with one in the late 90s & it was amazing, awesome tone. I've played new / current Danelectros but not the Longhorn. The new ones were good but not like the one I used originally.
Stacker
HAd one of the mid/late '90s ones. Great twangy tone, certainly not weak . QUite fancy one of the new 'Dead on' ones. I have a Korean made 3-pup guitar with the six-saddle bridge and it has some great quacky Strat tones.
lozbass
I had and very recently sold (no reflection on the bass) a '90s re-issue. Playability was phenomenal and the bass is incredibly light. I wasn't a massive fan of the core tone but with decent eq the bass was capable of a big round bottom-end and fairly crisp highs (maybe a little twangy). I'd certainly recommend the '90s reissue if you can source one at a decent price
