Im not putting it down or anything like that but even if I had the money I could never pay that much for a bass even if it had a famous history behind it. The bass I saw is on ebay as we speak. sorry no linky. Would you? :)

Posted (edited)

No I would not, even if I was able to.

There isn't a bass in existence worth half that much, it's ridiculous.

Still cheap compared to the £250k you'd have to shell out for a 59 Les Paul. Worth it? If someone was buying for an investment maybe, but investments are always a gamble, especially in today's market. They're all nice to look at though.

The Jazz is absolutely stunning but it doesn't look like it's ever been played

Was it because the original owner wanted to preserve it in its original condition or does it play like a Woollies special that's been left in a damp shed for 40 years?

On 2 occasions I've spent £1500 on a bass & felt guilty beforehand... so, um, no. That price would clear a huge chunk of my mortgage or pay for every home improvement / extension I could ever want.

What about Macca's fiddle bass in a deal before he dies, I think that would be a sure winner!

I found that bizarre as well, you would've thought that 40 odd years of the neck and body being pressed together, the act of removing the neck would take some of the paint with it as well

The reason that the neck pocket being painted is odd is that (as far as I am aware) a piece of wood is usually screwed to the bass body at the neck pocket to enable handling of the body when it's being finished, effectively masking the neck pocket from any paint.

The paint couldn't have rubbed off the neck pocket area because there shouldn't have been any there in the first place.

I'd have serious doubts about the authenticity with the neck pocket being painted. Surely if there were any markings on there, they've now gone. Also, why are is the pickup rout and the control cavity bare wood but the neck joint not?

after receiving a question about some of the parts that I am selling I've noticed something odd as well -

The Squier body I am selling has the entire neck pocket painted and the pickup route and control cavity have that grey anti hum paint stuff there so there is not a single piece of bare wood to be seen.

I know its not exactly the same but I;d never noticed that before so could it be entirely possible certain custom colours were painted everywhere? I mean Fender did some bizarre things like painting over other finishes so who knows.
