Hi Guys

I've got a 1980 Precision Special (the coloured headstock model with the active/passive switch). When the bass is in the active position it is a lot quieter than when in the passive position. The bass wiring appears to be untouched, the PCB seems to have no broken components and the battery has been replaced. Everything works as it should, it just sounds very quiet. I've tried taking the battery out and the active position then doesn't work, so it appears to be wired correctly. Does anyone have any idea what may be the problem?

Thanks for your help.

Yes, you have a problem although I have no idea what it is. I've owned two and active was slightly louder than passive with both. WoT or the Bass Doc will be along to help I'm sure!

I have no experience what-so-ever with the P bass Special but from past experience of active basses it might pay to see if there is a trimpot built into the preamp/board so that you can match the active/passive output.

Thanks for replying guys. There isn't a trim pot on the preamp. There appears to be a hole in the PCB that might support a wire, but there is no loose wire hanging, or anywhere that the other end may have been connected to. I've been trying to find a schematic or a photograph showing the PCB wiring on the internet but no luck.
