What is this?

Hi all, not a big poster, more of a lurker but thought I should break cover and ask if you could help.

Bought this guitar on ebay for the princely sum of £80, the previous owner had no idea what make/model it is. It has no marks or features which could have given me a clue.

Any ideas?

Neck/body join

Is it active or passive?

Any idea what the fingerboard is made of?

Is the apparent "dimpling" in the wood a function of the photography, or evidence that the body has been mucked about with at some point?

There are some scrapes and marks on the body and the neck isn't as straight as me (ooh err), but it plays ok.

Its a 5 string fretless.

I've never seen a headstock like that before - maybe a previous owner got it made up for him? The rest of the body looks a bit Bass Collection-y, late '80s Japanese anonymity sort of vibe.

Something about the finish of the body says home made, but the neck looks like it's come out of a factory.

Looks like if could be quite a good bass though, especially for £80.

The extended neck heel, joint, pickups, and hardware, are all very like those on my Jackson Concert 5. Pretty generic, but oddly similar. Although the Jacskson pups have Duncan branding on them.
