First gig of 2025, a birthday party, but the venue was part of a busy restaurant so they asked us to be mindful of volume. Felt like a great excuse to use my little cab for a little low end whilst the pa did the heavy lifting. Forgot how nice these eden cabs are and I got it for a steal.

As someone who was once politely asked to not play an EBMM Bongo as it was too garish, jealous of the kind of band where you can play that beautiful bass.

I have to stress, I was asked, not told. And I was the token goth in an otherwise legitimate indie rock band. The others had sideburns and parkas and everything.

Sounds like they were the ones lacking style - speaking one goth to another. Plus, the Bongo's do look rather fetching in my opinion.

My Jo Choui amp arrived , I believe the form was inspired by the Demeter Minnie. This should become my gigging rig for the time being.

How did it go? I use a C2 at home , but don’t think it could fill a room. The Elf is surprising.

I use the Phil Jones double 4 for my main feed to the desk and my own monitoring for the acoustic band. Plenty loud enough and a huge sound😁🤘

Now I did pick up a Barefaced One10 and it’s not much larger , and can fill a room. But the C2 is wonderful if you sit directly in front of it at low volume , but it just doesn’t fill a room.

Sounded nice, loud enough to get by but I would have liked a bit more oomph. PA wasn't great as eq was way out imho.

First time with the new setup at last nights gig. Also, first gig using the Ripper so much to get my head around!

Blackstar Unity 700 and two ultra lightweight Markbass Energy 2x10's. Big sound and needed some EQing to the room but easily sorted. Great fun using the Ripper and the amps distortion/overdrive for the more rocky stuff using a pick, it sounded awesome where I was standing. The Thunderbird is a great bass and a joy to play which I've used many times. I did have to roll back the bass on the amp however as it was pretty boomy. The cabs give a pretty deep bass output, more than I expected but again with a little EQing the results were very satisfying.

Still early days and I'd like a lot more time to experiment with the amps many settings and features but for it's first outing I was pretty happy.

I'm looking at buying a pair of these cabs. How do they handle low B and fuzz? I'd really like 2x12 cabs, but space and weight are a huge factor currently.

Cheers.

I only play 4 string so I couldn't tell you about the low B but after a gig and a couple of rehearsals with them I have found them to be quite bassy and not lacking any depth.

I decided to swap out my usual green and black Trace Elliot boxes for the SVT last night. Obviously in a tiny <80 cap venue, I needed a heavy-weight 300w all valve setup.. (!) 😅  I didn't go bananas with it but even so, the sound was lovely - somewhat different than my beloved V4 and V6 amplifiers but it worked beautifully. On the top of the amplifier, you can see the Ampeg Opto Comp and the Yamaha NE-1 with the Squier 40th Aniiversary positioned in front. ❤️

How did you find the Unity in terms of overall volume? I really enjoyed its sound and the variety of tones available, but it felt very anaemic in terms of output. From what I understand, you can only get the full 700W at 2 ohms.

I’m still experimenting with it to be honest. I do need to spend more time with it but loud practice at home is impossible due to the neighbours. I’m not sure what it puts out at 4 ohms off the top of my head but I found it loud enough for the gig. I did notice that I needed to dial in more gain though, especially with the Ripper bass. Maybe the volume comes out at the higher end of the dial.

That whole setup (including the bass) looks like perfection to me 😍
