niceguyhomer
Here's my new rig - I've had the cab for a few months now and bought the head off Flanker last week. I used it in anger last night and all I can say is WOW. In the first set I 'mixed' the tube channel with the FET one 50/50 and got a fat, warm and very punchy sound with my Spector, but TBH there was a bit too much of the valve warmth in there for what I do, so in the second set, I just used the FET channel and it's the best sound I've ever got out of a rig. The head and cab are really well matched and the build quality is absolutely astounding. The head is deep, rich, articulate and a joy to use - especially with the footswitch (guitarist was very unhappy that I had more control at my feet than he has ). It's really well made and yeh, at 33lbs the head's a bit heavy but I'm a big strong lad so no worries. The only down side to it is that there are a lot of very bright blue LEDs on the amp and on the footswitch and not being familiar with the layout of the amp / footswitch I was a bit 'blinded' and couldn't see the writing behind / around the LEDs and didn't know what was what but I'll soon get used to that. I think I need to play around with the head a bit more because there's a lot of versatility on offer blending this and that. Having the facility to mix the two channels is a revelation - the FET channel sounds amazing on it's own but dialling in a bit of the tube channel gets you into tone heaven. Suffice to say, I'm ecstatic with this rig. A couple of pics taken hastily this morning with a cheap camera and a severe hangover... Happy New Year everyone

I love my Genz Benz Neox212T and my Spectors..... so I can only imagine how immense they must sound through this head!!! GAS attack!! I wish you lived down the road from me so I could try it out! ped
Elros, that active speaker looks good - something I have been looking into recently. At £390 for a pair it looks like a good choice. I presume two would work with the Vbass stereo outputs? You just plug each channel into a speaker via an xlr lead, and I right? Cheers ped

I'm a bit wary of that boost only EQ...[/quote] for the last few months i've been using a Phonic 150w PA head as an... ahem... "amp".. and i've been happy with the sound, compared to that the sound with the hartke was instantly deeper, punchier and clearer. deffinitly seems to have balls, even at low volume* as for the boost only eq, i'm still a little confused by it. set everything to zero and you have silence, but surely if it's boost only you need a signal to 'boost'... to be honest i've found that setting everything in the middle gives me a good starting ground, then just eq like normal. can't find any difference of note* to a normal amp eq frankly. so i don't think it should be a worry *still haven't tried it out "in anger" so don't know if there'll be any suprises there

For example, the AD200B has a similar sort of EQ. I might be wrong on this but I'm pretty sure this sort of tonestack is cut only, not boost, hence why when everything is at zero, the output is zero. I don't know why everyone seems so concerned about it, or something? It's very common.

obbm
The standard Fender designed tone stack used in many pre-amps (Trace V-type, BBE, Alembic, old Fender, and many others) is bass and treble boost and mid cut. To make it flat you need to set the bass and treble at 2 and the mid at 10.
Kev
here is my little home setup: BLX is the main amp, the little practice amp and speakers/subwoofer are my low wattage speakers, and the little mixer on the board connect everything
