PapillonIrl Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 Amazing empathy for the song and vocal melody from Jamerson. Interesting that Marvin wanted the bass amp placed so close to his piano. Anyone name that amp ? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9KC7uhMY9s Quote
thisnameistaken Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 (edited) Looks like a Fender Twin Reverb. Is the bass going into that? Edit: Oh I see it's just a head, looks bigger in the close shots. Bandmaster Reverb head? Edited September 15, 2010 by thisnameistaken Quote

I think the amp might be a Fender Showman with (I assume) a Showman cab. The amp looks a bit tall for a Twin Reverb... EDIT: Aha, thisnameistaken, you could be right - maybe a Bandmaster? Pete Academy Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 Fantastic clip. Genius bass part. Quote
Mykesbass Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 Lovely clip - Jamerson - man, how good would he have been if he used more than one finger Quote
Happy Jack Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 The thing that really gets me is that he's getting that fantastic, rich tone but he seems to be barely touching the strings. It's only very occasionally that you see a string actually move when he plays it. I'm guessing that he had the volume on the amp way up, but played with an incredibly light touch. Quote
casapete Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 Fantastic clip, love it. Think the amp is an early 70's Fender Dual Showman head / matching cab. These were basically a Twin Reverb amp section, with the reverb tank in the bottom of the amp cabinet. The cabs were 2x15's, with JBL's being the usual option. Bit of an all round set up - guitar/keys etc, although the cab could be specified with bass spec JBL's too (K140's). Looks like James is using the 'normal' channel (rather than the more guitar friendly 'vibrato' one!) Quote
Hutton Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 It's been on here a few times in the past but I never tire from seeing it again. Thanks! Quote
99ster Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 (edited) It's available on DVD ... What's tantalizing is...they must have filmed this complete gig! Edited September 16, 2010 by 99ster Quote
