jakenewmanbass Posted December 24, 2007 Posted December 24, 2007 (edited) This is Lee Sklar with James Taylor in the '80s http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=uGpOHs0Ke9g whether you like the song or not its a great line!! there are loads of examples of basslines like this, the obvious ones being Jamerson who in my opinion made most of the Motown tracks he played on. Whats your Favourite?? Seasons Greetings all. Jake Edited December 24, 2007 by jakesbass Quote
chris_b Posted December 24, 2007 Posted December 24, 2007 I'll start with the obvious one.... Lou Reed and Walk On The Wild Side. Quote
tonybassplayer Posted December 24, 2007 Posted December 24, 2007 Another One Bites The Dust.......very simple line but very effective. Quote
BigAlonBass Posted December 24, 2007 Posted December 24, 2007 Funnily enough, one of the ones that stand out for me is the Bass line in "Why Do Fools Fall In Love?" by Diana Ross. I don't particularly like her voice, or her style of singing, but I heard this a few years ago and it blew me away. The Bass seems to be at a counterpoint to the melody, and for some reason, it really, really works. Quote

teen t-shirt Posted December 24, 2007 Posted December 24, 2007 something a bit modern Alien ant farms - Movies not that complex but damn it's catchy Foo fighters - The Pretender classic rocky bass line loads of quavers and fours but my god it holds the song together well Quote
WalMan Posted December 24, 2007 Posted December 24, 2007 This probably belongs in the Guilty Pleasures thread, but I have always loved the way the bass line moves along in ....... oh I can't say it ...... Wham - Wake me up before you go go Works for me every time as brings on a distinct possibility of air bass And then there's all those lovely Pino lines in the Paul Young albums Quote

Breakfast Posted December 24, 2007 Posted December 24, 2007 Adam Clayton has a lot of those- New Year's Day, With Or Without You ( very simple, but without it the song would be nothing ) and I'd say Mysterious Ways. Garbage- Stupid Girl That Freak Power song. Those are the ones that came to mind straight away. I bet there would be more if I went away and thought about it for longer... Quote
gaz the geezer Posted December 24, 2007 Posted December 24, 2007 ........ just about any stranglers song is lead along by the nuts with bassist jj burnell at the helm ....... none more so than the tracks off the black and white abum Quote
silverfoxnik Posted December 24, 2007 Posted December 24, 2007
That Freak Power song.
That'll be 'Turn On, Tune In, Drop Out' I (I think..) How about: 'Two Tribes' - Frankie Goes To Holywood 'Come Together' - Beatles 'Sound and Vision' - David Bowie 'Love is the Drug' - Roxy Music Not quite the whole song but the bass line in 'Alright Now' is so brilliant when it's in the higher register, it kind of makes the song for me.. Happy Xmas! Quote
