Not tried them myself

Chris2112
I snagged this cheeky blighter for £600! You've got to keep your eyes on the used market really! Edited September 15, 2010 by Chris2112

Funny how you don't even notice stuff outside your normal zone. Was never really aware of any of these.
lanark
I had images of a fretless "flying V" bass for a moment.
tauzero
The Mazeti fretless 5-string is down at the cheap end financially but it's a pretty respectable instrument. There's one on ebay at the moment, in fact.
geoffbyrne
Have you considered down-stringing a 4 string to BEAD? Usually all that's needed are the nut-slots widening just a touch. I played both fretted & fretless 4s tuned BEAD for a year in a Blues band. They went back to standard tuning no probs too. G. Doddy
Check out the Ibanez GWB35 if you want brand new. Although that Alembic Epic is sweet. It's always worth looking at the secondhand market
charic
Not sure of price but have you considered ACG Graft basses?

WalMan
G&L L2500? Got both of my USA models here for around £600 and the fretless I got earlier this year is great
fatback
Thanks for the suggestions. Got my Gas rumbling nicely. Can't say I want to detune, cos i do doodle a bit up the G string when nobody's looking (oo-er). @ tauzero, couldn't find the Mazeti on eBay, but i'll keep an eye out. Graft? Hmmm. I'll take a look. Not a big fan of single cuts, but they look a lot of bass for the money.
charic
Theres others rather than singlecuts you know and I will happily vouch for Alans work [attachment=59016:37323295...22d93db5.jpg]
