well, it's up for discussion now...hence why opinions are being voiced.

Avatar choices are a user's prerogative, except if they breach the T&Cs. It may be that we need to clarify this - I will discuss it with the other mods.

I think you can't really browse any public content generated website and guarantee avoiding NSFW content.

I understand what you mean, but If I'm just having peak on BC and the Chair Trustee who I do some work sees one of those images 'at a glance', it doesn't look good.. I know if you worked in the council and certain managers saw that.. it would be banned like facebook, as some workers are public facing.

BC is great and it would be good if office bods can keep using it at work
Is anyone offended by Christina Hendricks? :)
Not as such, but as an avatar is supposed to be a representation of yourself (and this goes for other avatars mentioned in this thread), it's a slightly strange choice.
So who's avatar in particular is causing problems?

I've not noticed any that are particularly NSFW so I feel I'm missing out!

If you run an ad blocker then you should be able to add the URL of any avatars you don't want to see to the blocked list and then they'll be gone.
Good idea, but I'd imagine that those people who might find the images NSFW work in a place where they probably don't have the administrative privileges necessary.

Is that a monkey playing the piano in your avatar? :)

I'm still concerned some folk thought my avatar was John Peel!?! :)

I can't say it bothers me massively what people use & the images mentioned aren't pornographic or offensive. An avatar is a personal choice & something that reflects you. If the thing you want to say with yours is "I like this girl", so be it. Perhaps it isn't the most inspired choice? I can try to intellectualise why I've used mine but ultimately it's just a picture of a bass playing hero / influence.

It's your choice to go on a site when you should be working (I occasionally do it too so just an observation, not a criticism) so equally it should be a question of choice for which avatar an individual selects.

I agree with the points you've made and think it's only right that users have free choice over their personal avatar, but I already avoid certain forums and sites during the day for this exact reason. I'd hate BC to become another. IMO, posting such images is a really easy and tacky way to ruin a great forum.

What has to be considered is that there are over 11000 members on this forum, policing them would be impossible without other users reporting them. Someone could easily have a NSFW avatar and not the first post it's on is the one that you look at with the boss nosing in.

I agree that avatars should be policed, but I don't see how would be feasible either. I don't think at the moment it is a great problem, the worst i've seen is something i'd see no worse than on the front on FHM, provocative but not really in the boundaries of NSFW.
