EBS_freak Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 (edited) I'm looking at getting a jazz/jazz shape quivalent (e.g Fender/Lakland etc... figure that everybody should have one in their arsenal) Can somebody show me some nice colours - I am looking for a simplistic solid colour body (so no bursts, or dyed tops) but am not sure what colour to go for. (I am currently favouring a surf green) I am potentially getting one made up so having a custom colour paint job is not an issue at this stage... so... post away and lets have a look at the beauties out there. Also, I know on US Custom guitars there is a make your own guitar flash app - does anybody know of a jazz bass equivalent? Thanks! oh... and hope everybody enjoyed their Christmas day! OutToPlayJazz Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 (edited) My current one is a Geddy in... Yep, you guessed it! Black with maple 'board But my old jazz was a fetching MIM 5-er in Fender's lovely "Midnight Wine." Actually, come to think of it, there was a lovely GB Spritfire last week on the bass porn section in a fantastic transparent chocolate finish - Loveliest bass I've seen for ages!! warwickhunt Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 Don't know if you've seen this one... http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...mp;#entry109512 Quote
Buzz Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 Go au natural: Failing that, if you really want colour: black, black, maple is loverly. Quote

Were you looking at mine or Pyschoandy's GB Spitfire? I've already got one of those(!) - <a href="http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=8738" target="_blank">http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=8738</a> This is the combo have my eyes on at the moment... what do you guys reckon? I've photoshopped one up with a black pickguard too... that looks pretty sweet also. Also quite liking the arctic white and midnight wine combos... hmm... decisions, decisions. Not too big a fan of the natural finishes at the moment... I guess it all depends on the niceness of the wood you get... but next to my GB, everything is going to look... well... kinda naked. I want something different also - I have never owned a solid coloured guitar or bass. I've always gone for bursts or natural. Must admit I do like the stealth all black look - I should point out at this point it will defo be a maple neck...! Edited December 26, 2007 by EBS_freak Quote
dub_junkie Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 I dont own a Jazz but if I did,I'd want it to look like this.candy apple red (a matching headstock would've made it perfect) http://perso.wanadoo.es/tallent/gear/pics/sale/BF2735.jpg or this. maybe shoreline gold? Mr. Foxen Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 Black with tort, and rosewood blocked neck was my plan, shame I don't get on with skinny jazz necks. Quote

Well, here's my bunch: Fender Roscoe Beck V Lakland DJ5 and my cheap as chips copy which plays great for an £89 bass! Christmas was good thanks - hope yours was too! Nik Quote

Wil Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 Seafoam (well, surf) green with a white pearl pickguard, I reckon. Quote

Muppet Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 Well, just to add another interesting colour - chrome red on a Fender (Fender have discontinued this - no idea why). The Lakland is pearlescent, rather than pure white. Quote
niceguyhomer Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 Here's my Lakkie - I've sold the J-Retro since taking this pic and it's passive again with standard jazz knobs. This is the same bass with a black cherry tort pickguard from Jeannie's. This used to be mine and gawd I miss it Quote

bass_ferret Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 GB's dont have to have fancy wood tops! Quote
Lfalex v1.1 Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 I wouldn't rule out transluscent finishes... At least you can see what wood was used, how good it is, and how many pieces of timber it's made from. If that sort of thing is important to you! I bought this because it sounds good and is very light/plays really well... Transluscent sunset over Ash (MIA S1) Quote

Clydefrog Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 Damn it, I've gone gassy for a Jazz now. Surf green/white pearloid is a cool choice. Found these Valenti basses (there's a CAR one in the sale/trade forum at the mo), and...erm... Sorry, had to sneak that Blueburst in...GUMPH Looking at the website, the Jazzes start at $1499, and with the exchange rate being what it is.... Anyone had any experience with these?? Cheers, Si Quote
