im quite happy with my technical ability but my theory is somewhat lacking.
i know the pentatonic scales well but not many others.
i want to be able to improvise in the major and minor scales and dip into modes but i dont realy know where to start.
Any books you would advise?

Search Ed Friedland in google, he's got loads of great books and each one is really well written. Can't remember which publishing company it is but they're all on amazon anyway. There's a couple covering walking bass lines, one which covers soloing and another one which incorporates bits from the latter ones calles 'jazz bass'. You won't go far wrong with any of these.

easy,

Scott.
