Perry
I want a practice amp I can turn up for a jam but still use for home practice. I don't want any sound FX just a soft warm tone. Nothing too big and heavy. These are some I've looked at: 1 Behringer BXL 1800 £156 2 Behringer BXL 1800A £179 3 Behringer BXL 3000 £188 4 Behringer BXL 3000A £194 5 Behringer BXL 900 £114 6 Behringer BXL 900A £132 7 Behringer BXL 450 £92 8 Behringer BXL 450A £104 9 Fender Rumble 60 £176 10 Gallien-Krueger Backline 110 £195 11 Gallien-Krueger Backline 112 £199 12 Hartke A100 £279 13 Hartke A35 £139 14 Hartke A70 £209 15 Hartke Kickback 12 £275 16 Hughes & Kettner BK 100 £259 17 Laney RB-3 £138 18 Laney RB-4 £194 19 Laney RB-5 £192 20 Laney RB-6 £228 21 Line 6 Lowdown LD150 £261 22 Line 6 Lowdown Studio 110 £168 23 Marshall B30 £169 24 Peavey MAX 112 Combo £115 25 Peavey MAX 115 Combo £149 26 Roland CB 100 £245 27 Warwick Blue Cab 60 £125 28 Warwick Take 12 £215 I dont really want to spend more than £175 but if you guys think it's worth spending a bit more the so be it. Many thanks in advance Perry Edited January 10, 2008 by Perry
Hamster
Another vote for the Line 6 Lowdown Studio 110 - they are really quite good. Hamster
The Funk
A secondhand Gallien-Krueger MB150 could be a good option. You might be able to get one for as little as 200 quid if someone gets desperate (I might in a few weeks).
Al.B
I'm very interested in this thread also. Has anyone tried/owned one of these; http://www.andertons.co.uk/acatalog/info%5fN15S%2ehtml cheers guys Al. The Burpster
Of those you've listed the 2 I'd go for are 1 The Roland Cube. 2 Hartke Kickback. Both very good. Go to a dealer that has the 0% finance offered by the Arts Council [topic="0"]Arts Council Promo[/topic], spend a little extra and get something that you can use! OutToPlayJazz
I'd vote for the bass cube 100, but the other one that sprang to mind was my old Marshall B65. Lovely sounding amp & still pretty portable. Or even an Ashdown EB180-12 or the 15 version.

Only £25 over your budget and you might be able to persuade the shop to either meet halfway for cash or chuck something else in. Add a second cabinet for the extra 55Watts and more speaker cone surface area.
Machines
That Eden is cheaper than I expected..looks good.
paul, the
Oh, I'd love to try the Eden with the 12. 120watts isn't bad at all. Is there anywhere that attempts to describe the tone of various amps?
Krysbass
....and one more vote for the Line 6 Studio 110. I've used mine successfully (ie, able to hear myself OK) at a few band rehearsals. It's a great little amp (though I might have to sell mine in the near future due to having given in to the temptation of Christmas G.A.S. and ordered myself an Ashdown Superfly mini-rig). bass_ferret
Spend as much as you can afford - I would pay the extra for the Peavey TNT over the Max. Try before you buy. Avoid Laney and Behringher - resale values as well as naked snobbery.
Jack
Dont see why you cant just use your big rig and make liberal counter-clockwise modifications to the volume knob. Some of the amps on your list are HUGE and heavy, certainly not portable. What is your big rig anyway? And what do you really want this new amp to do that your current amps dont? It's sounds great, nice bottom end but it's just a bit too heavy to keep on dragging it out from the shed when I wanna play. With the handles on the side I can't carry it with one hand. I guess you may suggest that I just use the Eden head and the 1X12 cab. The head is in a flight case with other bits & bobs in it so that is a bit of a pain to carry. Perry
Well thanks folks for you help and advice. I bought this off the bay. I had a few minor issues but I really like this amp. It's loud with lots of bottom end and portable. Thanks again. Here is a few pics.
Paul Cooke
well I'm glad you didn't get a Laney RB6... nice combo, but HEAVY... two man lift territory... I can't complain too much about mine though, I got it almost new for half list price... I'm currently looking in the 30 watt region... as my Peavey 126 is too small and my Laney RB6 is too big for my current playing in church... looking at getting a Marshall MB B30 or a Peavey Max
