Meenie
I wonder if they're going to do a five string drop tuned set?
BottomEndian
I'm usually pretty visually understated, but they're really rather cool. Quite tempted by the idea of a pink set on my all-black SR5.
Ou7shined
Hmmm not sure. They look great under UV but without it they look a bit
Randy_Marsh
Going to have to get those UV Orange strings! Hope theyre not going to be like £45 ¬_¬

zero9
You could try and create your own by using: http://www.glowtec.co.uk/paint-usage-Neon.htm Maybe try some old strings first!!! velvetkevorkian
It bugs me that they can trademark the word NEON.
funkyspuke
I already have clothes to match they look awesome ... yes, gimmick, but none the less .. awesome. I can imagine they will cost an arm and a leg
Lfalex v1.1
Never tried DR coated strings before. Are they based on any of their non-coated strings (Fat/Hi/Sun beams or Lo-Riders etc)? If they exhibit wear like Elixirs do, expect fluffy flozzy strings after a while as they fray. If the coating flakes off, it's going to look great under UV all over your trousers! I suppose they do look good on the right bass, but unless you keep your strings very clean, I reckon they'll start to look speckled with dirt after a while. ....thinks.... Interesting alternative to LEDs in a dark environment, though- provided you can bathe yourself in UV light. And don't suffer from dandruff/flaky scalp! Imagine how funny they'd look in an orchestra pit!
KiOgon
Cool but short lived, however Traci looks lovely - now new wallpaper on my 'phone, SOG I know.
LawrenceH
I find the black beauty coating very robust playing both fingerstyle and slap. It wears down on the bit that contacts the frets (which you don't see) but I haven't noticed any flaking and after a good 8 or 9 months I'm still happy with the feel and tone of them on my jazz, and I really don't like dead strings. A pick would probably be a bit much for them though.
Kev
No. Just no.
kingofthestuntmen
Oh great..! The age old finish/scratchplate/fretboard debate just got more complicated... BTW, the correct answer is 3TSB/Tort/Rosewood (or ebony) and NEON pink strings..!
skej21
Slightly unrelated, but I tried DR Black Beauties a few years ago and they went dead VERY quickly. Is this a common problem with DR strings, or did I just get a bad set? Edited September 25, 2010 by skej21
Lfalex v1.1
The FatBeams and Sunbeams I regularly use are among the longest lasting uncoated strings I've used. I had a set of Warwick EMPs do this once. I am quite wary of coated strings, although I find Elixirs fine (except on phenolic fretboards)
Delberthot
Apparently DR use a different type of coating to what they originally used. I remember having a set of Rotosound Spacer strings in about 1993 which were I think the first black coated strings available - they quickly, over the space of a few weeks, went from black to grey and dead as a dead thing. Surprisingly they never took off
