I think we all know which form of luck you mean brother hahahaha.

Lets face it Nick, (and please let me know if im out of order here chaps) you are probably a good guy,,,,but this sale aint been 100%truthful since your first edit on it once the BC'ers started to ask questions.

Your 'nearly a grand bass' is now down to about 700bucks of parts at best. your parts aint what they say they are and your prices are well off when questioned!!!

I think £450 is very hopeful. However, like so many BC'ers I wait with bated breath to see how this all pans out!

Your right, i wasnt sure about the electrics and although i said the body was warmoth i did say i would get a picture up straight away to prove this. When i found the mistakes i notified everyone interested straight away. I dont think 450 is hopeful, its just under half of what i paid, It's hardly been used, never gigged, everythings new, i've seen loads of guitars go on here for at least 3/4 what they've paid :)

anyway, enough arguing, im going to play fifa

C'mon Nick it was funny. A little cheeky for a FS thread yes, but pretty hilarious considering the thread's direction.

Regarding your comment about price above (I wouldn't comment unless you did first) yes many production basses will go for 3/4 of their retail price but that will usually be accompanied by an assurance or recognition of construction quality as well as the quality of the parts. In reality this is a bass that has been bolted together by yourself from bought in parts (and to be fair you couldn't even remember where you got them, which leaves the seriousness of the build on shaky ground if you know what I mean) you can't really factor in construction/labour time on that unless you have actually made some sawdust or done the paint yourself. Ok you have drilled some holes but drilling isn't exactly time consuming - and in a build such as this, is often where any inaccuracy leads to trouble too.

In all honesty I think you may be approaching it's value here but taking into consideration simple little details like the tuners not being fitted as perfectly as they might be as being a potential indicator of the overall level of craftsmanship, I think once/if you go sub 400 it should sell quite nicely.

The big lesson here is you never get back what you put in from a basic bolt-together project. Off the shelf retail parts are priced as replacements and become less economically viable when used in complete builds. The only time it becomes "worth it" is when you do it for yourself or for the love of it and are aware of the hit you will take on resale. Compound that with the fact tha people will think "Why risk good money on this guy's skills when I could spend the same amount on a well known brand/luthier?" and unless you can prove a good skill level you're taking another hit. It might not be fair in a lot of cases but there you go.

Of course if you'd started this thread with less flamboyant claims it might have sold before any of us bass nerds picked up on it. :)

I do understand the initial suspicions, because i was wrong on a couple of things, but i have put everything right; i've let everyone who was seriously interested know the changes and have re-adjusted somewhat my original post. Every source and price is now correct which is backed up by receipts, so i have no idea why people are still doubtful of some of the sources. I understand that i wouldnt make a profit on this item, but since i paid more than 850 (inc VAT) i still believe 450 is a decent, fair price. I will take in your remarks though and may end up selling it for parts instead, i'll give it 1 or 2 days, but it would be a shame to see this broken up :/

Hey Nick, seeing as though I kinda started this review of your thread, I thought I should at least add something positive.

The parts you've got are all good gear. The fact you have the receipts is also very positive. It's difficult to explain why the value of some of the parts have lowered (ie. the body), but that could be for a variety of reasons - maybe WD source that part from somewhere else, maybe they've lowered the quality, who knows. Personally, I think splitting the bass would be your best option if you want to maximise your return. The only issue there is you'll most likely end up with one or two pieces that might take longer to get rid of, but then, you may reach your target value before they go anyway.

I think the thing to learn from this thread is that you need to be as clear as possible in the description from the get go. It's ended up a bit of a train wreck, and obviously people are a little unsure of you because of the confusion. That's not necessarily a comment about your honesty, it's more a reflection of the mistrust that is found on the internet these days. There have just been so many scams pulled on the 'net, people struggle to believe anything that's not 100% substantiated, and once they feel unsure about something, it's very difficult to regain their confidence.

I agree it would be a shame to part it out.
And you might not actually end up getting all that much extra for the used parts and at least you'd only have one shipping charge if you sell it whole.

But you're not getting it mate. People will evaluate your prices in the light of what they would pay new now, not what you paid then. Two years ago your bridge was £50, now it's £90 (as you've stated in your list, I don't think you show the cheaper receipt.....?), so you win a bit there. Two years ago your body/neck were more expensive, now however they've gone down. You can't expect people to buy today on two year-old values. If you did, you'd surely be selling the bridge for what you paid two years minus 40% depreciation (i.e., about £35), not at 175% purchase price as it is now.

About 30% has gone of the vintage guitar market in two years, but anyone who tried to sell in that market now on 2008 values would be laughed at. it's life mate. No-one is going to pay over the odds out of charity.

There have been several Warmoth basses equipped with far better components than yours that have struggled to sell here and at below what you're asking. Warmoth is also real quality woodwork. As said above, a parts bass is not a good proposition to sell intact. Part it out and be patient and you might get £450

Cheers

Been a bit rough on the guy here, don't you think? I mean, eventually he's given the receipts to prove where the parts came from, although he could have been accurate from the very start and possibly saved himself a lot of trouble, but having sold things on a whim before I understand the half-assed approached to selling..... only once people start asking questions do you start digging receipts and stuff out to find out yourself. Some people are more organised than others I guess. Reading through this thread though I was a bit taken a back by some of the comments, especially here on BC. Seemed more like the Ernie Ball forum at times.

Good luck, I hope someone tries the bass and loves it.

I'm not about to applaud or argue with your comments but you should appreciate that the description and OP has been altered and amended numerous times; what you say posted atm is not how it started! Not saying right or wrong but we all live and learn. :)

My take on this thread is it started out with genuine interest and people just asking natural questions. Then it fell apart a bit. Having sold a parts bass for a small fraction of what the parts cost, I sympathise, but the lesson I learned was I wouldn't ever do self build again. Bottom line is, for £1000 you could buy a very nice US Fender which will still be worth somewhere in that region, or more, when you come to sell. And for £450ish you can have a nice used Jap Fender, which will also keep its value. So the maths make no sense.
