4-string-thing
Just curious, but whats your bands opening song and why? Ours is "prime mover" by Zodiac Mindwarp and the Love Reaction, cos it's a nice, lively song thats easy to play and gets us nicely warmed up without being too taxing! Mr Fudge
Suffragette City by Bowie or Children of the Revolution T-Rex for pub gigs. Weddings usually some ELO or other "chewing gum for the ears"
TimR
Sometimes I wish I could get in a band that didn't have to reinvent the setlist at every bl**dy gig! <rant> Just because we've heard and played the songs a hundred times, putting them in a different order will not. 1. Make it more interesting. b. Make more people dance. It just makes it harder to keep my pad in order! </rant> Edited September 30, 2010 by TimR
Heathy
With my last band it normally varied between Misirlou, Hawaii 5-0 or Peaches en Regalia.
leonshelley01
We use I Wanna Be Your Dog by Iggy and the Stooges. Nice easy warm up with plenty of punch.
leschirons
"The boys are back in town" in the rock band (obvious I guess but it hits them between the eyes) "I can't stand the rain" in the covers party band. "Help the poor" in another little funky blues outfit.
essexbasscat
Used to be The Ballroom Blitz by The Sweet in another band, but it's anything these days
munkonthehill
outside woman blues by cream or redhouse by hendrix
Cat Burrito
We always vary & it's usually originals only so if we had a set opener I'd be amazed if anyone knew it
sshorepunk
On the odd occasion we do a covers set, it's the start of Babba O'reily, the guitarist does some loopy stuff to get the intro, then the big F C Bflat bit a few times round, hit the F one more time, hold it a while, guitarist reverses the loop, hold it a bit longer, quick count in by the drummer, into My Generation, seems to work well! ead
One of our own tunes called Hey You - I thinks it's on our myspace site (fusionindierock if memory serves)
the_skezz
Varies...sometimes Chinese Rocks, if it's a shorter gig we play one of our original numbers (usually one called 'No Prospects') and for the gigs in October there's the possibility of it being Dead Kennedy's 'California Uber Alles'. Rowbee
With funkier band 99.9% of the time we open with Magic Carpet Ride by Steppenwolf, but have found it's a bit of a waste as it works well in the 2nd set when the crowd have loosened up a little. With the female fronted rock band it's been Hanging on the Telephone by Blondie for a the last few gigs at least.
thodrik
When doing covers, it was always You shook me all night long by AC/DC.
Stingray5
Function/covers band: if we've not had a special request for an opener, we'll go by what the audient looks like. Younger, older, ready to party, ready for bed... All of the above? We'll play it by ear but will probably opt for safe but uptempo (for example, Blues Bros "Everybody" into James Brown "I Feel Good"). Lozz196
As we are a punk covers band, it has to be Anarchy In The UK.

Conan
As we are a new band, we are still putting the setlist together, but the two hot favourites for opening numbers are Van Halen's Runnin' with the Devil (not inspired by the movie Little Nicky at all!) and Steve Stevens' (What were his parents thinking about?) Atomic Playboys. Sadly, we lack the hair.
allighatt0r
We always open with Steady As She Goes by the Raconteurs.
JTUK
Varies ..as will the set, so no any one number is garaunteed to be in that set anyway. We usually start with a mid tempo number that is quite sparse so we can use it as a sound-check. That sets up the build as well. Typical starters would be 'come together' or 'grounds for divorce' Dep bands would have the same thinking; something to sound-check the band and get everyone new comfortable. Happy Jack
Down At The Doctors - Dr. Feelgood We would never DREAM of starting with anything else cos it's, like, y'know, tradition an' that.
