Low End Bee
One called "90 Miles Down 88 To Go" A road song about the A303 complete with a Chuck Berry style bass intro. It's uptempo and easy to play. Gets us straight in the groove,

scoobystig
we usually start with one of our own called "its just me", if not "one wild night" by bonjovi, including extended cheesy flute intro as our entrance music
lanark
We've always started with an original called "Con Rumbo". Although we've considered changing simply because our regular audience will stop hearing it soon.
Dave Vader
As an 80s tribute band it has always been Planet Earth (Duran Duran) but is slowly coming round to New Life (Depeche Mode). Back in the day when I played guitar in punk bands, we always opened with a different comedy tune, once it was the theme to Taz-Mania, sometimes it was the A-Team, and occasionally a 2-unlimited number (it was the early 90s after all). xzodar
The Rock Band - Teenage Kicks into Ever Fallen In Love The Function Band - usually an instrumental, currently its the Rocky theme, previously we've used Starskey and Hutch or Shaft. benh
In the rock band, it's "The Boys are Back in Town", in the glam band it's "Action" by the Sweet

KevB
For my current lot I'm stuck with the utterly tedious Hideaway. Supposedly they do this to 'warm up and check the mix is right'. I gently pointed out after a few gigs where we didn't sound check (and still usually don't) that it would be better to start with something that at least has vocals in it to get the full mix. About another 10 gigs down the line and....yep we are still opening with Hideaway and then someone comes up to our lead singer/guitarist at the half time interval and tells him that they couldn't hear the vocals, nearly every gig. Words fail me.

[/quote] I wonder if this is dependent on how often and the number of gigs you do. In my last two bands we didn't really gig more often than once a month but on the rare occasion we had 2 in a row on Friday and then Saturday even then the drummer changed the setlist. Is it a drummer thing? In both the bands the drummer was in charge of the order.
fender73
Hi all For my Bluesy Rocky Funky trio, it's either I Shot The Sheriff, the Thrill is Gone, or Crossfire by SRV. 2nd set is usually Superstition. For my covers band, it's Vertigo (U2) or Valerie. 2nd set is usually Summer of 69 Great thread Graeme
dougal
We start with one from the "covers that should be banned list": "Daktota", straight into "ever fallen in love".
Bassmonkey
Another from the "covers that should banned" from us is Teenage Kicks or Alright by Supergrass. Am sick of playing Teenage but the audiences love and it's their saturday night after all......click, click, snare kick, snare kick......etc
Norris
Sultans of Swing gets the band nicely warmed up to 'cut some licks' for the rest of the night. After that, it's fairly random picks from the list or requests. We try to save a few decent ones for the end of the last set/encore.
chrisba
Normally, Come Up and See Me by Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel. Our singer always starts with the same joke, "Here's a little Cock <pause for effect> ...ney rebel"
