You may also find a set of welding nozzle tip cleaners handy:

Regular needle files generally aren't fine enough to cut nut slots for the higher strings (at least mine aren't). The nozzle cleaners are much finer. They don't have enough cutting power to cut a nut from scratch but I've found them useful for making fine adjustments to nut slots, particularly for the G and D strings.
