theosd Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 (edited) I like how he has to physically restrain himself from getting too funkily down wit' it, in order to maintain his emotionless approach. The second vid you posted shows him actually seeming to enjoy himself... only the power of slap bass it seems could achieve that! Edited December 30, 2007 by theosd Quote
Mr. Foxen Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 WAsn't the King Crimson guy taping cut down drumsticks to his fingers? Sure I read about it recently on actual paper so musta been a recent mag. Quote
Jean-Luc Pickguard Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 Here's some info on Tony Levin's site about his Funkfingers http://www.tonylevin.com/pbtlff.htm It looks like he stopped selling them over seven years ago. Quote

Mr. Foxen Posted January 1, 2008 Posted January 1, 2008 Now I checked out Buckethead's other stuff, he is suddenly my favourite guitarist. Quote
jay249 Posted January 1, 2008 Posted January 1, 2008 None of that did anything for me at all, whatsoever. Quote
Golchen Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 I have no interest in any musician who wants to look such a total tw*t. His image is a 20 second student prank that accidentally went on forever. Guitarists playing bass - How many are there? I recall that Yngwie played bass on one of his albums, and also Eddie Van Halen played all the bass on a Sammy Hagar solo album. What other well known ones are there? Quote
wotnwhy Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 what on earth is that guy next to him playing??/? Quote

On Vai's Passion and Warfare, for example, Vai plays boring bass on the opening song Liberty, then Stu Hamm adds the Ex Factor to Steve's Erotic Nightmares: no risk of confusion there! On Vai's Live at the Astoria DVD, there's a hilarious backstage video of Billy Sheehan's roadie trying to teach Billy to slap, so he can play some of Stu's parts. More notoriously, Billy Corgan played a lot of bass on the Smashing Pumpkins studio albums - exactly how much has never been disclosed. On the DVD I have, there's studio footage of recording the "Untitled" track, with D'Arcy or Melissa* nowhere to be seen, and Billy sounding like a bassist, not just a guitarist playing bass (IMHO). * Auf Der Maur, that is. I've heard bits of her upcoming Out Of Our Minds project, and I can't hardly wait. Edited January 5, 2008 by bnt Quote
