Accessory on Bob Babbitt's Precision

This is maybe a long shot but I wondered if anyone can throw some light on an accessory that Bob Babbitt has on his precision close to the bridge. It looks like some kind of muting device. It can be seen on an ad on page 13 of the October issue of 'Bass Player'.

The prices used to be on the website but not there at present.

My recollection is that they were not at all cheap.
