Yamaha Appreciation Thread!

A flange of Yamahas (assuming that's the correct collective noun!)

Loving the 415 at the mo, it makes noises no passive bass has a right to make, and the RBX170 punches so far above it's weight you have to wonder how so many other entry-level makers are still in business. The TRBX though, however well made, is obviously slightly less desirable than halitosis judging by my attempts to sell it!

I think, and this is only my personal opinion, that the popularity of the TRBX504 is sullied by it's association to the TRBX304 which players tend to avoid, I think, because of it's 'gimmicky' switch, "Do you want a slap tone Sir? There you go. Finger style, not a problem". Although the TRBX504 and 505 don't have the switch, and the pickups/pre-amp are different, the association is there.

An acquaintance of mine has a TRBX305 and he loves it to bits. He's owned Alembic and Wal amongst others in the past but says, "nothing growls like this Yamaha". The TRBX504's time will come

I've yet to be in the same building as a TRBX3, but do they sound anything like the RBX374? I only ask as the pickups look similar. I had 2 of those, and haven't found anything that snarls in quite the same way.

I've fancied these basses for a while, and gave up looking for the double P one so here's the SBV500 I've recently acquired. A bit beat up (some fool has belt buckled the hell out of the back - where I'm from we'd say "it's like a plooed park, min!") and there's a few dings and chips around the extremities but it did mean I got it for a keen price :) Sounds good to me but what surprised me most was how well it balances on the strap. No neck dive, I'm serious. I was using a Neotech Mega strap (wide/neoprene) but even so, I was amazed.

This is my bbne2 and i have so satisfied with what this bass has to offer. Ballads, funky, pop, rock... it sounded right in alot of styles.

Cheers, it's hydro-graphics & it was done by a company in Western Super Mare called Hydrodip Designs. The neck was lacquered locally by J.Davey Guitars.
