stingrayPete1977 Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 I love all the Indie, Madchester and Britpop era stuff (Im that age).I have been listening to some classics from the Seahorses,Stone Roses, and the odd track from all those great bands that had just one hit that still get played in the clubs now. I would of been happy to of been in any of those sort of bands and written some classic basslines but what about you lot? Quote
stingrayPete1977 Posted October 8, 2010 Author Posted October 8, 2010 Shed Sevens first album is underated and brilliant with some nice simple bass lines that you can imagine playing live. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R7HxhpQP-Nw...feature=related The first few bars sum it up really with good guitar, drum and vocals too just the sort of stuff that go me playing back in the day. Also Joy Division and the Sex Pistols. Oh and be a male drummer in the all girl band The Go Go's Belinda carlisle and Jane Wiedlin are the two sexiest girls on gods green earth. chris_b Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 The Stax studio house band. Also a lot of great gigs flowed and are still flowing from being the bass player in that band. Quote
barneyg42 Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010
Chic or EW&F
+1 for Chic, I've played and loved rock all my life but also been massively into Level42 and other such stuff but to be there with Nile and the girls would be heaven! Clarky Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 If I were a more technical bass player, I would say 80s Metallica. But I'm not, in which case I will say Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds after Barry Adamson left them. Quote
Happy Jack Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 A complete no-brainer for me ... The Beatles. Quote
Heathy Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 Jimi Hendrix Experience. Another no brainer! Quote
Cat Burrito Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 From a music point of view I'd love to have been involved in Stephen Stills Manassas but from longevity I'd like to go beyond the 2 records they made. So I'll go for The Byrds as they transcended so many genres. In fact I could just cut out the middle man and have Chris Hillman's bass playing life - that way I have all the bases (& indeed basses!) covered Quote
acidbass Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 I'd have happily occupied the Jamerson role in the Motown setup, but I'd make sure I had a proper lawyer to negotiate my contracts! Quote

AndyTravis Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 Queen. But then no Deacy, so that would have made them 25% less good (well, 50% in my mind). Quote
stingrayPete1977 Posted October 8, 2010 Author Posted October 8, 2010 Some good replies people! +1 for Chic it would be rude not to with a natural pre EB Stingray in the cupboard! Beatles yes ,Charlatans yes,Matallica double yes (I was at the MK bowl in '93, fookin 'ell YES!) Keep them coming this is an interesting thread so far...... p.s nice to see you back in the room Tino! stingrayPete1977 Posted October 8, 2010 Author Posted October 8, 2010 Oh Queen forgot that one! I appear to have more of an eclectic taste than I thought? Quote
Musicman20 Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 When I was about 14, Nirvana, despite the easy bass lines. Love it, and totally inspired me to play. Early/Mid Green Day perhaps. NOFX, any era. Now, early, whatever. Interpol, again any era. Im sure ill think of more. Quote
stingrayPete1977 Posted October 8, 2010 Author Posted October 8, 2010 MM20 Early green day and Nirvana oh yeah! Loved Dookie but there is some ace stuff on smoothed at slappy hours. Krist Novoselic (or similar!) is ace whats he doing now? Love buzz is one of my fav songs ever and the Bleach album in general from start to finish! Quote
DirkThrust Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 Deep Purple MK3 but if I joined them they'd probably be crap because I'd be replacing the most talented member of the band. Quote
BigRedX Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 Joy Division/New Order Hooky pretty much redefined the role of the bass guitar in post-punk and so when I joined my second band in 1982 and the guitarist wanted to do mostly weird noises and textures rather than chords and riffs I was able to step up and write songs where the bassline was the main instrumental part. Quote
leschirons Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 In order of preference The Rippingtons ,Family, Kool & the gang and Tony McAlpine's band (Maximum security days) Quote
steve-soar Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 Throbbing Gristle, Captain Beefheart, Can, Mott The Hoople. Quote
