Stack/Amps for fairly new player

I've been playing for a year or so now and have a job under my belt at the moment.
I currently have a Peavey 1x18" 400wt combo and it does the job, but I'm looking to get a Cab and Head

I don't know a great deal about amps in general and would really appreciate any guidance or suggestions? I'm looking to spend maybe, 500 in total? Round about. Anything less would be great!
:)
Thanks

+1 to the Hartke LH500 - seem to get a lot of lurve on here.

Theres currently a Marshall VBC 412 for sale on here - I have one of these, and its a great cab - fairly heavy, rather large, no tweeter, but they sound immense, great for "old-shool" rock/punk sounds. Its up for £250.
