Ok...

For some strange reason, you're forced to cut down to just one bass, what do you choose?

At the moment, i really would love to own a Ken Smith Black Tiger...i just sit and stare at this one every now and then. They just don't come up in the UK, so i have no idea if i'd love or hate it.

So, have you already got your 'one', would you choose something old, something ultra modern and high tech, fretless 18 string?

This is purely just to see who covets what gear, and there was plenty of bass porn at bassday so just curious really.

I know there are some people lucky enough to own a few really nice basses, but in reality i'd say the most of us could afford to do it once.

Anyhow. Here's mine...until i try one and realise i prefer a precision or something.

EDIT - That Victor Wooten Monarch at Bass day was pretty special...and like an idiot i didn't ask if i could sit with it.

I would be happy with my 1972 Precision. But I once nearly bought a Fender Pino Palladino Precision and I have always hankered after one.

Mine would be a composite of my 2 Gus G3 5-strings. It would have the CAR and chrome finish of the red one, but with aluminium fretmarkers like my G1 guitar and they wouldn't flip to the treble side after the 12th fret. From the black G3 I'd take the ebony fingerboard and the dual humbuckers and passive controls.

Well, since I only have the ONE bass... :)

But if we're talking about THE bass, I've been lusting after a Rickenbacker 4003 since forever! And I will continue to go on about it until it is mine X3

The truth? Well check this out. Up to a month ago I had up to 10-11 basses. I stumbled upon a 5 strings Dingwall ABZ and suddenly everything else I owned has lost my interest, so much so that I am selling most of the others just keeping those which I know I will need at some stage.

I have also ordered a new Dingwall Super J 5 strings which is like a Jazz Bass on steroids with a J/P pickup combo, due to arrive Feb / Mar 2011

only one bass?!
oh the horror!!!!!

theres not much the jazz bass can't do
but at the end of the day, you could always hang on to the most expensive bass you can find and then just hire the rest every now and then? :)

I'm getting a deja vu feeling about this, but at the moment it would have to be the G&L L-2000. My current Tribute model is fine, I see no need to get a USA model.

Would have to be a Fender Precision for me. Not sure which one though - what a great thought, finding "the" precision thats best for me. At present, its my Twins Of Evil 1 - my go to bass for gigs & rehearsals.

Easy. This:

The current incarnation of my 1979-ish CSL JapCrap Jazz, now wearing DiMarzio Model Js & sexy stack knobs. Simply the most comfortable, playable and (with its new pups) most useable-sounding bass I've owned.

I have a ridiculous & unnecessary number of basses, but all the rest can get flung on the fire to warm me through the coming nuclear winter, apart from this one.

Yamaha RBXJM1. Irreplaceable. If I never bought another bass in my life, I'd be happy. But I'm definitely gonna buy another one at some point. I want to own a Warwick and a Shuker Artist Pro at some point in my life.
