Veils Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 Just before my band broke up, we were having a big debate about mixes on the songs we had just recorded. One of the first mixes we got sounded really good to me, but nobody else agreed and we ended up settling on a mix which everyone else apart from me liked. I have put links up to both mixes. One of them has a big long intro, the other doesn't but just ignore that. There is a bit at the end where the song slows down where there are some compression isssues and they can be ignored. It's the overall mix I am after an opinion on. The mix we went with is here: http://www.yousendit.com/download/UVJoR0lVQXB1Yk0wTVE9PQ The other one is here: http://www.yousendit.com/download/UVJoR0lSZEt3TGcwTVE9PQ Quote
mhuk Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 I preferred IAS_2+ I thought IAS_9 was too trebly and not as gutsy; I winced when I played it straight after IA2+. I'll put the speakers on their stands and have another listen after lunch. Quote
3V17C Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 i preferred IAS_2+ also definitely a much 'fuller' sound, less weedy than t'other. some nice bass bits too....bit Ryan Martinie-ish although i'm getting too old for all this shouty metal and blastbeats! peace c Quote
mhuk Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 I've had another listen... I hate the vocals in IAS_9 but that might be because the guitar is lower in the mix and they're fighting for space and the drums are higher/ clearer. Quote
Josh Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 (edited) Jamie man the second one has a mix which is almost the same as DOADD, sounds damn professional and a tad bit on the beefy side of things as well! It Sucks you guys split man. Edited June 1, 2007 by Josh Quote
Veils Posted June 1, 2007 Author Posted June 1, 2007 Thanks for all the comments So is everyone picking out the same mix then? Funny - I picked exactly the same one and everyone went with the trebly one Quote
DrGonzo Posted June 2, 2007 Posted June 2, 2007 (edited) Yeah, the 2+ mix is the better for the instruments. The vocals are a little thin - bit of a trick here, get a little octaver program and run it low in the mix. Makes the low growls evil as sin! Although to be fair, the mix the other lot chose is a lot more aggressive sounding. Probably a compromise between the two would have been ideal! Edited June 2, 2007 by DrGonzo Quote
ped Posted June 2, 2007 Posted June 2, 2007 I think 2+ is the best overall mix, but the other seemed a little clearer - I like the extra treble, but the mix was slightly more boxy. I think if you could have the top end of the second version onto the 2+ mix, you would be away. Let me also say how good the track was! I KNEW there would be a mental beatdown at the end, and you did not dissappoint!! Lol. It sounds quite a lot like my last band (Part III: The Onslaught) so it takes me back!! Its all jazz funk fusion now! Cheers ped Quote
Veils Posted June 3, 2007 Author Posted June 3, 2007 Thanx ped I personally think the end of the song is the weakest point - but everyone else liked it Yeah we wanted a bit more top end in the overall mix like the first one but the heavniess in the 2+ mix came from what we did with my bass track, which was basically to reamp it through a Mesa Dual Rec (yes - a guitar amp) and distort the s**t out of it. The 9 mix has had that all backed off and it just sounds a hell of a lot tamer. Quote
Dan_Nailed Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 2+ is better but guitars need more articulation and sub could do with a little taming. 9 sounds a little bit too distant, as in it sounds more live to me. Quote
