lojo
The covers thread has me realize that Id love to do originals again, I have the offer, but the style is not really what I want to be doing and time is precious So wondering what would be your ideal originals band if you could form one based on your own unique take on it, or indeed are you lucky enough to be doing just that? One of mine would be something along the lines of CSN funked up a little, and with some brass, and perhaps some female vocals in there Its highly unlikely though that anyone else in the world would be into it, so I'll have to stick to my covers bands http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CVW9sOsXAjU (bass at around 4:00) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQAWqT_R5NI
Cat Burrito
Personally one of the attractions of bass is moving around trying new things. My last band was very country, my current lot is very Americana. I like the idea of doing Stonesy type stuff one minute & Dylan the next. I would like to have played in Stephen Stills Manassas band
Linus27
I have only done original stuff but for I like it to have energy and be uplifting with light and dark. That can be from a playing aspect so when you go to a bridge or the chorus the song goes up a notch or from a vocal angle where a really catchy melody kicks in and lifts the song. Not sure that makes sense

xgsjx
I have my almost ideal band. Singer plays guitar (Acoustic & Godin midi synth thingy) banjo, percussion & keys, there's a mandolinist that also plays ukulele, bohdran & spoons, and the drummer willingly switches to playing sampled beats & keys. I even play some guitar in the band! We do just about every style of music & I'm trying to talk em into doing some DnB & dubstep (I'm trying to disguise it as jazz or fusion ). Other problem I have just now is my issue. I'm a 60 mile round trip & have no pennies.
Oscar South
Pure Post-Rock with a string section, 2 guitars, bass and a ton of reverb and delay pedals. Songs would all be 12 minutes long minimum and most would just have one crescendo that is built up to for the first two thirds of the track. LOADS of tremolo guitar playing (reverb essential). Alternatively, the band I do play in (sort of Alt/Prog/Noise Rock type stuff, hard to name a genre but we've been dubbed 'nuclear prog' by contemporaries, I'm happy to go with that) is pretty ideal musically for me: http://www.thebetaspace.com/ Then again, the acoustic quartet I play in is great fun, and I love all the music we play and have written: http://www.reverbnation.com/lespeches But now it occurs to me, the fusion piano trio I've started recently.... Ok, enough self promotion , I think from typing this message I've learned that my ideal music is that which I'm playing at that moment in time.. not exactly the worst way to be.. I did have 'Mono', 'Gregor Samsa' and 'red sparowes' (who I saw last sunday) in mind when I was typing that paragraph though. I'm trying to get a few mates off their arses and form a grindcore/ drone/ noise/ post rock band; Drums, drum machines, synths, bass, guitars, noise stuff etc. No one member is stuck playing one instrument for a gig, semi structured songs that allow improvisation. A sort of God Is An Astronaut / Godflesh / Red Sparowes / Merzbow mix.

cris the man
after being in a death metal band, i've moved onto hardcore pop/rock bands and now im playing jazz and big band songs after all this, i've decided to form my own band, where i have 2 bass players, me doing high end riffs while the other bassist is holding the foundations. i've got poppy elements with jazzy chords and hard rock riffs Great combination of stuff and really enjoying it! one of our songs is available on facebook, but its a poor quality as im not great at mixing http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Nazca...149906245040894 like us! Chris2112
I tend to play a lot of originals these days, albeit they are often extended fusion-y jams played and recorded in a studio purely for our own enjoyment. We just don't have the time to go out and gig!
Bassassin
I think I kind of am in my perfect 'riginals band - although things would be improved massively by a drummer who would play what the songs need, add their own touches of flamboyance & brilliance - and actually be available to play a bloody gig or two! But you can't have everything... Jon.
AndyTravis
I'm happy with our band at the moment, it's fairly dark country/indie stuff, but i'm allowed to play however i wish, i don't overplay whatsoever, but i'm often encouraged to play things a normal Manchester indie outfit would hate. Luckily, the lads are open to me using whatever i need to do to add my 'layer' to the song, wether that be Cliff Williams root note pumping, or Brian Ritchie style chordal acoustic bass. Slap is banned however, not that i would, but i've been told once during a jam, and i won't be doing it again, haha. I'd love to have a go at a modern British soul/funk band, but Jamiroquai (amongst others) cornered that market and now it's a bit old (cat in a) hat. So that shall remain a pipe dream.
