Damage Control Solid Metal - anyone tried one of these?

My old guitar player had one - a lot of bass response present and it was designed to give that tight low end rhythm for guitar. Might be too bass heavy for the 4 and 5 stringers but he wouldn't let me try it.

However Damage Control gear is solid and they do a range of dirt boxes with varying degrees of grind but have been discontinued now. Worth checking them out if you can find them.

My friend has/had one. Very tight, thick sound on the guitar, very much like a cranked tube amp. Not tried it on bass.
