No1skewenjack Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 Does anyone know of any bass guitar maintenance courses in the south west? cheers. Quote
zero9 Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 You could do a search on Amazon for 'Bass guitar maintenance'. There are some good books on the subject. Quote
Dom in Dorset Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 I think it's too specialised for anyone to run a regular course on the subject. You'll find a lot of useful stuff on youtube, ie how to adjust a truss rod etc. All the wiring diagrams I've ever needed are published on the internet. and , as I always say in these circumstances : get a copy of this book: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Make-Your-Own-Elec...9701&sr=8-3 it covers all the basics. XB26354 Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 As far as maintaining your average electric bass goes, outside of neck relief, action, intonation, tuning and changing the battery (if it has one), there's not much else to do unless you start investing in serious tools (files for fretstoning, needle files for cutting nuts, rasps and blades for shaping bodies etc). The principles come from furniture making so if you can't find any instrument building courses, perhaps see if you can find a traditional/fine furniture course? It'd be much better than a book (unless you have tons of wood to practice on and a lot of time and money). Quote
7string Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 (edited) I can recommend the books and DVD's by Dan Erlewine. You can find them at Stew Mac Some colleges run guitar repair courses on evenings, so worth looking at those as well. Edited October 19, 2010 by 7string Quote
