Acoustic bass

while listening to Andy mcKee ( an amazing acoustic guitarist ) i began to wonder , this acoustic style , can it be mimicked on bass?

Also , are there any FAMOUS acoustic bassists? i can't seem to recall any...

Jonas Hellborg is probably the best known player to predominantly use acoustic bass guitars. For this style of playing on bass, try Jeff Schmidt.

Brian Ritchie of the Violent Femmes mostly plays acoustic basses- in particular the old (and very large) Ernie Ball Earthwood.

ive heard jeff schmidt , amazing bassist
however , recently , hes been more focused on his band - the fist - then writing songs
his style is incredible

Not a constant player, I don't think. But Sigur Ros' bassist used an acoustic in an acoustic session on the Culture Show special (saw it yesterday). I don't know what it was but I liked the tone.

Well they use acoustic basses on the MTV unplugged show obviously. Bassists such as Krist Novoselic of Nirvana played acoustic basses on that show.
