Phil-osopher10
So all evening I have been admiring many fantastic builds and now i'm interested, very interested in getting my hands dirty.. errr dusty? I think building my own bass is out of the question as I have no tools, however I may be able to build a cab. Though I would like some rough blue prints per say... I do not know an awful lot of sound waves and dynamics etc etc. so any help would be useful. Also I think there should be a pinned thread that everyone can post a final picture of their creation plus a link to the build diary, just for ease of access? I don't know, maybe the mods can sort something out... if they think that is an okay idea. Philip
Musky
Check out http://www.billfitzmaurice.com - the Jacks seem to be a popular choice, and there are plenty of threads detailing the build diaries of various builds on here. Electro-voice also provide free plans, though without the detailed instructions that BFM provides.
Mr. Foxen
Here are links ot plans, and most importantly, cutsheets, for very excellent cabs. A lot like the Barefaced cabs, without the extreme lightness engineering and fancy crossover action. Phil-osopher10
Thanks so much! Those barefaced look alikes look good! may try my hand!
Dubs
Think about what you want to use it for and what speaker configuration you want. That's the first thing you need to work out. If you're going DIY, then you may as well go totally DIY and make your own plans IMO.
Phil-osopher10
I'll be using it in a medium sized gig (3-400 if that is medium) It's pretty much rock and jazz I'll be playing. I love big slow grooves where the bass hits you! Has anyone had any experience with a fEarful cab? DO they sound good?
Dubs
Probably best to go with a BFM design then - sounds like you need something fairly serious. You could do a pretty good vertically stacked 2x12 cab design with fairly minimal know-how. Edited October 25, 2010 by Dubs
Phil-osopher10
Well I have a TC 212 already, so I'm just looking for a 1x12 for the recording studio/rehersal space. Has anyone had any experience with both of these cabs?
thinman
Excellent BFM Jack 12 build diary here.

I would warn that 18mm birch ply is heavy stuff, so you might want to try it in 12mm and add a little extra cross bracing instead. Here's a pic of my EV606 (the 1x15 version) - the 806 is a scaled down version of that. These are ideal "first build" cabs - a very simple build. Mr. Foxen
Bear in mind that the multi driver jobs that they aren't really suitable for close micing, they are more for monitoring purposes, and the flat response they are designed for is to faithfully reproduce the same sound that is going through your DI. The EV design is probably better for 'miced cab' sound, micing the others means finding a spot between the woofer and midrange where neither dominates. Occasionally you find at gigs someone has just miced the woofer and you just get low end out front whilst the bassist is playing a gurning solo. The springer on the right is too prone to farting out to be useful for bass.
Phil Starr
If you are thinking of building a 1x12 then consider the Beyma SM212 which is a bit of a gem. Cast chassis, reasonable efficiency, good frequency response with well controlled cone break up and at the price a fantastic Xmax (cone excursion). Oh, and it sounds great with a bass. I can send you dimensions of my cab if you want.
