Phil-osopher10 Posted October 22, 2010 Share Posted October 22, 2010 So all evening I have been admiring many fantastic builds and now i'm interested, very interested in getting my hands dirty.. errr dusty? I think building my own bass is out of the question as I have no tools, however I may be able to build a cab. Though I would like some rough blue prints per say... I do not know an awful lot of sound waves and dynamics etc etc. so any help would be useful. Also I think there should be a pinned thread that everyone can post a final picture of their creation plus a link to the build diary, just for ease of access? I would warn that 18mm birch ply is heavy stuff, so you might want to try it in 12mm and add a little extra cross bracing instead. Here's a pic of my EV606 (the 1x15 version) - the 806 is a scaled down version of that. These are ideal "first build" cabs - a very simple build. Mr. Foxen Posted October 27, 2010 Share Posted October 27, 2010 Bear in mind that the multi driver jobs that they aren't really suitable for close micing, they are more for monitoring purposes, and the flat response they are designed for is to faithfully reproduce the same sound that is going through your DI. The EV design is probably better for 'miced cab' sound, micing the others means finding a spot between the woofer and midrange where neither dominates. Occasionally you find at gigs someone has just miced the woofer and you just get low end out front whilst the bassist is playing a gurning solo. Phil Starr Posted October 31, 2010 Share Posted October 31, 2010 If you are thinking of building a 1x12 then consider the Beyma SM212 which is a bit of a gem. Cast chassis, reasonable efficiency, good frequency response with well controlled cone break up and at the price a fantastic Xmax (cone excursion). Oh, and it sounds great with a bass.
