Great isn't it... Marks technique has [s]entertained[/s] amazed me since I first met him. Great player. Great style. [s]I hate you Mark.[/s]

Fantastic afternoon!

Good to see some familiar faces as well as some new ones.

Stand out moments:
Barefaced Midget - such a big (and good) sound from such a small lightweight cab. Ned to try one (or 2) with my band now.
Flat Eric's double-neck Jaydee - the only bass heavier than my Yamaha - I do love 8-string basses though.
Mark's fretless W&T. Lovely. Only fretless bass other than my Sei that can make me sound good ;-)

A big thanks to Tait, for organising it all and to Simon for giving me and my basses a lift to the venue.

It was great fun.

Highlights for me were BRX's Fretless Sei, Oakbear's Ritter and (maybe surprisingly comparing to some of the other basses hanging around) Simon's G&L L2500, I was seriously impressed with the fat tone on that thing, definitely a brilliant bass for the money.

Bonus points for "things that are awesome and I want, but I could never justify" go to Dave's bass synth and Shep's Ibanez fretted/fretless thingy.

My only disappointment of the night was the tone of dbass's Dingwall through my GK rig, I love the feel of them and with the GB rig I tried out in Bass Direct it sounded awesome, but I'm starting to think it might be the combination of soapbars and the GK, though I've not tried enough basses with it to set that in stone yet. I would've liked to try out one of the 'rays through my rig, but I had to shoot off to get to a gig in Wales so didn't get a chance unfortunately.

If you want to give the fretted/fretless thingy a proper try your more than welcome bud...

haha thanks, I was tempted to yesterday, but I don't think it's for me. I like fretless but I still use them as a fretted but with a slightly different sound, I can't use the techniques that make it worth having the fretless strings when I have the same tuned strings but fretted so I'll politely decline thanks. :) It did sound brilliant though.
Simon took a great shot of my twin - the guy playing it in the pic, standing next to DaveC, had a very nice
MIJ Jazz with period tuners fitted - lovely to play but had a issue with the badck pup. Hope you get it sorted

Cheers. :)
That was me, Eric :) I thank you for the tip about the tuners. Oldgit of this parish (RIP) did mention at the time of sale that he thought "someone had messed around with the tuners", but I never imagined they'd be "more authentic " than the MIJ originals. I was pleased to hear everyones' feedback about the new pickups, as they are not mainstream models like SD or Delano. PM "matte_black" on this forum for more details about the split coil jazz humbucker, its very very quiet indeed yet also pokily loud.

A double neck was an experience, thanks. I'm going to get the dremel to work on the cable routing through from the bridge pickup rout to the control cavity. Its quite steeply stepped and I wonder if a prominent piece of wood there is nudging the treble side coil of the bridge pickup.

Well done Luke, btw.

Sorry for the late reply, I'm just out of traction after having FlatEric's twin neck round my neck on Sat :) OK it wasn't all that heavy but certainly an experience. Also liked noodling away on the '64 P bass (I was born that year too!) and the neck on that fretless pedulla was lovely. Didn't try any of the exotic multistringers but they did remind me I still have some ironing that needs doing.

Was lovely to meet everyone, although I didn't socialise with everyone as it was nice to see my old friend Thom and just have a catch up and play on his GK rig! Which I must say, I was impressed with! It maybe needed to be a bit more mid clarity for me but it really moved some air!

That crazy little Barefaced cab has got me looking into them now. Damn GAS!!!

Awesome to talk to everyone I did and look forward to another one soon.

@Shep - will try and make tonight bud.

I wouldn't start a new thread until someone agrees to arrange it... Or it'll never happen. If I get time I'll look into stuff, bit I'm working 6 days a week at the mo and hardly have time to breathe. If no one else steps up, I'll look into it in a month or two when thing calm down in my world...
I would organise but I don't know the first thing about it haha. I guess first thing would be to gauge how many would like to/are interested in going.
Hi Stephen,
maybe start a poll to see who'd like to attend another Notts bash?
I'd be up for it (would be my first one!)
