arthurhenry
Could be an intense practice session, playing to your favourite gramaphone recordings, or noodling in front of the TV. How much do you need to do to stay in shape? I do 90mins every day. Used to be 3 hours, before I had kids! Edit: Replies of "about 40 inches" will be ignored! Happy Jack
Erm ... depends. I have (really bad) days when I don't pick up a bass all day, and I have (really good) days when I may spend a few hours noodling or practising before going on to play a 3-hour gig. thisnameistaken
I try to get an hour in most days, but it won't always be strict practise, often it's just noodling for fun. And some days I can't practise because I am resting my wrists because the tendonitis has flared up again.
leonshelley01
I try to do at least 30 minutes a day. That will usually be revising stuff I already know, just strengthening and stretching the fingers. I also have two 3 hour rehearsals a week plus the odd gig at a weekend, or learning new stuff for the next rehearsal.
the_skezz
Depends on my mood, generally varies from one hour to about eight (when I'm really in the mood).
leschirons
Anything from not at all for a week, to 6 hours if in the mood. All depends on what else there is to do.
Delberthot
used to be every day for several hours a day - lucky if its 20 minutes a week now I use the Sylvester Stallone workout method - concentrated, focussed playing over a short space of time. I think my playing has come on leaps and bounds over the past year with little practice. I'm not bragging. My favourite drummer of all time Buddy Rich never practiced ever. Low End Bee
During a week? One 3 to 4 hour rehearsal. Maybe a 45-60 minute gig. Anything up to 10 minutes at home. If I'm song writing it goes up a lot though.
Clarky
Excluding rehearsals/gigs, probably 20 minutes a day on a working day and between 1-2 hours on a weekend day

Lorne
129.5cm Oh, sorry I thought you meant the length Not very often, I have 3 kids, they suck practice time right out of you, years ago it used to be 8 hours a day, helped that I worked in a guitar shop though
51m0n
Once upon a time it would be 6 hours a day. That was a very long time ago. Now its lucky if I get 10 minutes a day....
Bilbo
Nowadays its about an hour every two or three days. Sometimes more, sometimes less. Everybody thinks everything in the world is more important.
SaxxyBass
As long as my fingers will take at the moment (but then I only started last wednesday ) Also at least 1 hour a day on the Sax
thunderbird13
Probably about 30 mins a day - unless I'm trying to record something then it all day with the bass in one hand and mucking about on Cuebase on the other
neepheid
Not as often as I should, and not as often if I want to progress. It probably averages out to be < 10mins per day - shocking. I will really have to get into the habit of having a bass in the living room to pick up and try to play along to whatever is on the tellybox, that should help train my ear more. When it comes to jamming out song ideas it takes me longer than I'd like to get into what is being played. I think a wall hanger of some sort is in order, as we've no room to have a bass on a stand. Wil
Most days, not at all! Maybe 10/20 minutes if I'm in the mood. I tend to leave it alone until rehearsal.
Low End Bee
This thread is giving me the guilt. I realise now I have no motivation to play the thing outside of a band situation.
xgsjx
I like to play 8 hours a day, the wife likes me to avoid it at all costs. We comprimise & I get to play for an hour every 8 days.
Tait
Most days it will be about an hour. Sometimes it'll be maybe 3 hours, sometimes (occasionally mind!) I won't pick it up at all.
urb
Anything from 10mins to an hour - sometimes more - little and often is my moto.

Joe Morrello says that him and Buddy often used to sit and practice together. I usually pick the bass up for at least an hour a day, although if I'm feeling it,I could easily be there from anywhere between 2-3 hours and all day. El Bajo
Got a baby and a stressful job so not as often as I like. I try and get in at least 3 hours a week plus a noodle in front of the TV. I look back at my uni days and can't believe I wasted so much time getting pissed and not practicing so I try and make every minute count.
