j2112c
Hi Guys, Being new to bass how do I get this sound on Paul Young and The Comodores? Octaver/Chorus/Reverb/Delay...or less than that? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FrkEDe6Ljqs Similar sound here too, but maybe even more effect: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ywoHBGS_DnQ
gjones
Buy a synth!
gjones
Ha, ha seriously though. If it's Pino Pallidino it's a fretless bass with an octaver, some reverb and probably a bit of chorus.
Delberthot
not just any octaver - it has to be a Boss OC-2 I would never sell mine

I know where you are coming from:lol: Comodores have frets on the bass in the video - of course that might not be what was used on the recording. Yes you are correct, Pino Pallidino did the recording though I did not see him in the video... he seemed to be on everything in the 80's. ..but an octaver, reverb and chorus you think? I thought maybe that way too... I will have to experiment to get this iconic 80's warble! Edited October 25, 2010 by j2112c

If so I guess they are up to OC-7 by now ... is it like the delays units, some of the older OC are different sounding to later versions? Delberthot
no they're only on the OC-3. The OC-2 is analogue and comes complete with warbles. The OC-3 is polyphonic so you can play chords and it does octave up and down as far as I remember as well as distortion

Kiwi
It sounds to me like a bass set on the bridge pickup but the bridge pickup is very close to the bridge. It also has a hard fingerboard of some description and super low action with the pickups set close to the strings. That set up in combination would give the prominent mid range. Effects wise - heavy compression, a little analogue chorus and some selective eq on the treble with a parametric equaliser to take out the string noise. But its mostly the bass. There's some delay used but its very selective according to sections of the song and would be difficult to emulate on stage unless you were standing with your foot on the select button and could guarantee you could make the delay to the tempo played by your band. paul_5
+1
+2. had one years ago and sold it (mistake). Recently walked into a (fairly) local music shop looking for an analogue chorus and a mate of the guy who was working there had an OC2 for sale. I think it's an accurate description of the transaction to say that I bit his hand off. Simply the BEST chorus pedal I've ever use. Ever. Not letting this one go. The mode button on the far RH side of the OC-3 has an OCT 2 position that sticks the whole thing into OC-2 mode. As much as I originally wanted to, I can't slag it off as not being as good as my old OC-2 that died of beer spillage...
