BottomEndian
I don't know what happened. I don't know how it happened. But it was something bad, and it happened to this bass. From the item description:
Although the guitar doesn't currently work, the body is in perfect condition
...quickly followed by...
On 24-Oct-10 at 18:42:26 BST, seller added the following information: I didn't mention in the listing that where the plate has been removed from the front of the electrics a piece of the wooden body has come off. You can see this in the pictures though.
Still, it could be a project for someone with more patience than me.
AndyTravis
Would Rob Green be able to add a new laminate on the top of the bass?

BottomEndian
Can anyone identify the model? I'm not au fait with Status models. I'm guessing it's a Series x000, but I have no idea whether it's 1000, 2000, 3000...

Happy Jack
I think you'll find it's one of the Status Completely f***ed series. They're pretty rare these days, so should be worth a bomb.

The 3000 had a similar looking knob arrangement though.
BottomEndian
My guess is that it took a very sharp, heavy blow to a jack plugged into it, which fractured a whacking great chunk of wood off the front as the jack socket got slammed and twisted. Looks like someone's later tried to cover it up by screwing a control plate on, but they've given that up as a bad job. This bass is haunting my thoughts. This is definately a 3000 series headless...i've previously had 2!.A Mint One Sold on here last week!

It says £51 on my screen. If I was selling that, I'd certainly put a higher reserve than £51 on it - it's worth at least twice that just for the parts.
I'll disagree, I think it's a 1st run Energy, I owned 3 over the years, all headless with walnut bodies & thought they were 3000 models. The last one wnet to be refretted by Rob & he informed me it (& it's predecessors) were original Energy models. I have an old Status catalogue that lists the 3000 series as having a glass fibre body. I bought one Brand New through A1 Music Manchester when they first came out, and it was wood/not glass fibre and it was sold under the title Status 3000. Wil
Certainly looks like a 3000 to me: http://statii.com/status_cats/flyers/series_3000/index.html Early Energy basses do look remarkably similar though: http://www.statii.com/status_cats/adverts/...rt_nov_1991.jpg I doubt there is much to split them apart from year of manufacture.
