wazz
I'm looking for a bit of help with narrowing down my choices on a distortion pedal. Ideally I would like: mains powered valve distortion/overdrive direct/effect blend or levels No bass loss The sort of sound I want is from a Song2 type distortion to a slightly dirty overdriven valve sound. Any suggestions to save me trawling the shops endlessly much appreciated. Wazz

vegas_hooker
Maxon ROD 880/881 The bass on song 2 sounds a lot like chords and a big muff to me (probably wrong but what they hey)

Higgie
Song 2 was recorded with a Marshall ShredMaster - Quite expensive nowadays owing to Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead using one. I had one for a while, but it had quite bad bass loss. BYOC have released a DIY kit of the ShredMaster, and I'm sure you could change a few component values to make up for the bass loss, if DIY is your thing. ahpook
mains powered and valve driven ? an aria td-1 platinum drive ? i'm more than happy with mine...no blend i'm afraid, but the eq is very good - you'll lose no bottom end Edited January 5, 2008 by ahpook

dannybuoy
I'm about to order one too! Not sure whether to get the VT2 over the VT1 though at this stage... I've done a lot of research over here and at talkbass and can tell you that the other pedals that can help you achieve that sound are: - BJFE Blueberry (sounds the best to my ears but hand made by some Swedish guy, so expensive and very hard to find) - Fullton Bassdrive Mosfet - Homebrew Hematoma (comparison of the above 3 complete with clips - http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=296888) - Tone Factor / Mojo Hand Cream Pie (also hard to find, but loved by many - http://www.grygrx.net/Pedal%20Reviews/Tone...ream%20Pie.mp3) - Voodoo Lab Sparkle Drive (light overdrive pedal with a clean blend feature to let your clear bass signal shine through. No samples but supposedly awesome on bass. Review here - http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.p...voodoo+sparkle) - BBE Green Screamer (built for guitar but works wonderfully with bass. No samples but read this - http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?p=5135291) Edited January 13, 2008 by dannybuoy
