Cat Burrito Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 I've always loved this picture of Dylan which I believe is a studio shot from 1965 Does anyone know anything about the Jazz bass? It looks like Danko's & I wondered if it was. Quote
rOB Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 no idea about the bass but I've always loved that picture too. Sorry, nothing more to add Quote
99ster Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 Oh yes indeed - an iconic Jazz image... Here's a truly wondrous clip of Danko playing his Jazz Band in Woodstock As for this Jazz - the picture was actually a Fender publicity photo - I'm certain it was used in Fender ads in the 60's - so I would think it could well be a Jazz that was given to Dylan by Fender...? Or maybe it was Danko's - that's a cool idea for sure! Would love to hear any more about it! Quote

risingson Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 (edited) As above, Fender were keen to get big names photographed playing their instruments, regardless of their actual affiliations with guitar or bass. Elvis was also photographed with a P-Bass a little earlier on. Edited October 26, 2010 by risingson Quote

Cat Burrito Posted October 26, 2010 Author Posted October 26, 2010 The Fender promo idea makes sense as the amp pictures are obviously posed (it's not plugged in!) Great clip too Quote
99ster Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 Looks like the full story is here On a Talkbass thread Quote
Cat Burrito Posted October 26, 2010 Author Posted October 26, 2010 Cheers 99ster. I love the story about how Dylan only picked up the bass to frustrate the ad guys who wanted him to pose with a guitar. Interesting to see how many posters across the different forums have the picture at home (mine is framed & above my record player incidentally!). And I'm not the only one who assumed it was Rick Danko's Jazz bass, not Harvey Brooks. Quote
99ster Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 Harvey Brooks video Interview.... you might find interesting... Quote
