silentbob Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 Getting a funny background noise from my amp this evening. It sort of sounds like the hissy crackle you get when you turn a dodgy pot, but i'm not turning anything. It's just there when i play, but not when i stop playing. The amp is a Crate BT100, and it's only had home use while in my ownership, never been turned up over halfway. Any ideas where i should start looking? Quote
geoffbyrne Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 If there's an FX loop on it, take a jack plug & put it in & out of both the sockets, say, 20 times - also do the same if there's a headphone socket. I've also found that the phono connectors going into a reverb tank (if you have one) can cause this. Otherwise it could be a dry solder joint or a cap going dry. G. Quote
RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 yeah,or loose connection/transformer Quote
flyfisher Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 All the above, plus turn all the pots end-to-end a few times. Quote
silentbob Posted October 27, 2010 Author Posted October 27, 2010 Just turned the amp on to try out some of these fixes, and the noise has gone. At least i have some stuff to try if it comes back again. Thanks guys. Quote
