I have been watching some great musicians on youtube so I'm looking for some inspiration... i.e. FREE tablature of well known songs from the likes of Simply Red, Earth Wind and Fire, Jamiroquai. Additionally, some decent websites to learn all the basics. Can any of you guys please point me in the right direction? Many thanks to all. risingson Posted October 29, 2010 Share Posted October 29, 2010 The best thing you can possibly do as a beginner before jumping in at the deep end is getting a good feel for how the fret board is laid out and and look at some bass intensive songs that aren't too tough to play! Hey Joe by Jimi Hendrix is a great one to start off with as it has a prominent bass line and not too much to get your head around. Work your way up to the Simply Red, EWF and Jamiroquai stuff, their bass players are real heavyweights and should only be tackled once you've got your fundamentals down! Best of luck. Because Sting who wrote them also played bass he made sure that the bass got a decent look in. Also, everyone knows the songs already. (maybe not if your under 20) Best thing to do is get this song book and cd. [url="http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/1423446526/ref=oss_product"]Police songbook[/url] The book has the songs in bass tab, bass clef and even some treble clef for guitar. Also a cd that plays the song then plays it again without bass so you can learn to play over it yourself. [url="http://www.bassmasta.net/"]here [/url]is a bass tab site, there are plenty more out there. A very good website to learn bass clef, and bass playing is this one, [url="http://www.studybass.com/"]studybass.com[/url] It takes you through lessons one by one, it will take a few months to study the entire course properly. Often a bass tab, but be aware these tabs are not necessarily correct. You will have to use your own jugement as to how it sounds when you play it.
