Soliloquy
I'm considering going down the separate pre amp/poweramp route. I figure I could have a couple of different pre amps for different gigs. My past experience with poweramps has been a bit of a disaster though. They're either huge heavyweights or have excessively noisy fans. I'm amazed that you can't get a small, reliable and lightweight class D power amp. Similar to those used by Genz Benz. These Peavey's look good though, and are certainly in the right price range. Mr. Foxen
The fan on my Matamp Quasar sucked in my hair last practice. These look a little more appealing.
Soliloquy
Just found this on Ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Peavey-IPR1600-open-...c#ht_2162wt_761
franzbassist
I had one for a while. Hard to beat from a price and weight point of view, bloomin' loud as well and the fan was whispher quiet. If separates are the way you want to go, and you're happy with a 2u amp, then go for it. Cheers Gareth

From looking at an image of the rear panel it wouild appear that they don't switch, and so I imagine the UK ones have a different transformer to cope with our mains voltage. I looked into getting one of the (similar specced) Crown Drivecores from the States because they're so much cheaper, but they are the same, and I was advised that using a step down transformer is not recommended for power amps. Mr. Foxen
I think stuff with switch mode power supplies (guessing this has due to weight) work on various voltages, but not clear from manual. Actually, the manual says only use voltage marked. Edited. Edited November 2, 2010 by Mr. Foxen
