waynepunkdude Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 Birth year bass, bugger my lack of funds.
Lysdexia Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 Hi Tom - I hope you don't mind, but I refinished the last of your photographs on your behalf. For no other reason than I know this bass and it's a stunner - I just wish I could have photographed it for you! Good luck with the sale!
Lysdexia Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 And your 1st photograph refinished. What a beauty it is!
Alfie Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 I often looked lustfully at this bass when it was on the Classic and Cool Guitars guitars website. Lovely lovely lovely.
tom1946 Posted November 1, 2010 Author Posted November 1, 2010 Andy, thanks very much, looks just as it does in real life now, amazing!

Lysdexia Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010
I'm interested as a complete photo process novice, what and how "refinished" is achieved?
Hi mate - to this standard then it's a lot of work. For this particular photo

Turn and recrop
Levels adjustments
Curves adjustment
Colour correction
Dust removal
Background removal
Background desaturated
Background lightened
Background blurred
Image sharpened - luminosity only
Image duplicated and resized for web
Image resharpened for web, completely different process to the hi res - again luminosity only
It's boring tech stuff I know. But, the best advice I can give if you want to learn to do it really well is this; The best online training I know of I learned here and it's so good that even after years of doing this I still subscribe and use the place for training and ideas.
tom1946 Posted November 4, 2010 Author Posted November 4, 2010 Now £1000, 2 days only then you won't see it again so be quick.

Schnozzalee Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 (edited) Can I ask what the story is with these, other than the new team? I can't find any info EDIT: Found it! How much does it weigh? Edited November 4, 2010 by Schnozzalee
tom1946 Posted November 4, 2010 Author Posted November 4, 2010 It weighs about 8.5 lbs, it's quite light.
doctor_of_the_bass Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 Allo! A lovely instrument and in impeccable condition! Can you confirm that the scratchplate and control plate are original since I recall the US standards having a one piece combined s/plate and control plate as per http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=109276 I've got a Precision from the same era and the build quality is excellent! Looks just as it did (apart from it being refinished in fiesta red to match me Dads gtr!). Cheers! Nick

tom1946 Posted November 5, 2010 Author Posted November 5, 2010 Hi Nick, the bass is exactly as it came from the factory except for the pots which have been changed at some point.
tom1946 Posted November 6, 2010 Author Posted November 6, 2010 Now withdrawn, thanks for your kind comments.

Must be a very early one using the normal plate-ages! in which case it might be quite rare! Do keep this bass!!
tom1946 Posted November 7, 2010 Author Posted November 7, 2010 I'm going to Doc, the neck isn't rolled edge like modern versions, quite a surprise and also feels very slim, just wish I hadn't discovered G&L's, I was a very committed Fenderist until then
