Fender Precision 1980/81? Maple

Now thought to be a 1980 or 1981 - whatever year it is
in the late Seventies style.
If you listen very carefully. . . . you can hear
Hit me with your rythm stick, I don't like Mondays and
Another Brick in The Wall, vibrating off the strings!![/size]

This is a very clean late 70's Precision, which according to the guy I bought
it off, privately, only had one owner before him, making me only the third owner.










I went through a big Precision and Jazz phase, a few years back and after I
managed to get my dream Jazz, this was next on the list.
I have rehearsed with it and gigged with it but only at some of the nicer venues,
if you get what I mean. :P Didn't fancy it getting damaged!
Took me AGES to find one in such good condition.
These pics were taken last summer but it hasn't changed since then.
I will be taking more shots and give a full description

The last time it made a public outing, would be about 8 months ago and since then
I have rehearsed with it a couple of times, wiped it down and put it back in the case.

I have several other "P"'s and none of those have been out for a while, as I am
working my way through Ibanez, Aria and Peavey T-40 etc.

So, I think it is time to let it go.

I am looking for £1200 for this, which comes with a std case.
For another £50, it will come with one of those fancy Fender moulded cases, which is
what I have carried it around in - top protection.
I also have a period Fender case, which I bought to go with it and having paid for it (ouch)
dare not take it out.
Someone [i]may[/i] be interested in that.

As I said, more pics and description to follow.

Hi. Not sure - I will dig it out at stick it on the scales.

At a guess, 10 - 11 lbs - almost all the ones I looked at, of that period
were all about that sort of weight.
I have some pretty weighty basses, so I guess I am more used to it.
If you are used to a lightweight bass, perhaps may not be for you.
I was playing my Ibanez Studio, the other night and that weighs quite
a bit more than this P. :)

As I said before, I will get some more pics and a description, towards the end
of the week.

Hi.

Not entirely sure this is accurate - scales at work, which were very accurate
are on the blink, so I have tried it on the old "wind up" scales at home, which
always seem to add a few pounds after a weeked!!!! :)

Taking an average of three, it seems to be 10lbs 10oz but I will confirm when
I put up more pics/info.

acording to the serial on the headstock, your guitar was made at the Fullerton Plant (Fender - CBS Era), USA, in the period : 1978 - 1981

this bass is stunning!

are U considering any trades?

Hi.

I realise that a lot of people strip instruments down to the last component, in order to prove
that is is what it should be.
I had the scratchplate off when I first had it, during a wipe down and string change.
All seemed to tally but I didn't take any shots.
Seems a shame to take it apart again. :)

If you intend to buy it and that is the only stumbling block, I will take the plate off.
Buying?

The staining next to the small ding, is under the varnish and not wear.

I've tried to show "warts and all" and on the pic, this looks a lot worse
than it does in reality.
This is on the upper bout, towards the bottom end.

Just had a quick go on my small practice amp - Sweet.

You can see the thumbrest, just, in one of the shots - that was the one
that came with it - I removed it, as a preference but now can't lay my
hands on the screws. Still looking!

As I said when first posted, comes with a standard case but for a few $$$
more, it will come with the Fender moulded case.

How about "includes Fender hard case". :)

These are about £120 ish new and the one included is "as new"

This is a 70's bass, 70's weight, 70's build quality, 70's pick-up and pots,
70's through and through - In fact, you couldn't get more Seventies!!
Case is only about 3 years oldand is not . . . . . . . . . 70's :)

CTS pots dates are 137 + two digits for year + two digits for week.
Sorry but it seems that your pots are from 1980.

I sold a US, serial number: S9***** Precision exactly like this, only with a rosewood fingerboard for £1000, 6 years ago. This was through an "internet auction site", no-one asked about pots or screws for thumb-rests either... and my hardcase was knackered!

Therefore, this seems a great price.

Oh and mine was a 1980 one - this was penciled on the neck and body.


If I liked maple fingerboards I'd be quite tempted - all the best with selling it...
