Copper Wire anomoly!?

Folks,

I have been inquiring regarding a Japanese Jazz on the bay, the seller seemed legite until I questioned the strange material running from the bridge to the bridge pup I asked him what it was and got the reply below:

This is copper wire for the Solder(ground). It is
well used for a jazz base. Of course, this is
original.

Ignoring the broken English, I have never seen any kind of grounding on display, his add mentions him doing some refurb work himself I think I shall steer clear but such a shame as its a dream finish in a lovely shade of blue.

Thoughts?

It's the grounding strip. My MIJ Jazz also has one. Quite common to see them on MIJ Fenders of a certain age.

Cheers guys, seems strange to leave the grounding plate 'on display' takes away from the finish?

Wether its on display or not you want a really good grounding strip/wire as the alternative is a nightmare!

From your pic it doesnt look as if hes replaced it Straight ,might need repositioning an easy fix!.

I had a 62 reissue Jap Jazz which had it.

AFAIA it was a feature on the early Jazzes and Fender Japan are being faithful to the original, so that probably makes it a 62 reissue

The strip shouldn't be straight.
