NoClue220
Here's the deal... I want to refinish by boyfriend's bass for christmas but don't know where to start or how much this is going to cost. He's already got the neck and body taken apart and the body sanded... what kind of paint would I use? If anyone can give me a direction to move I'd really appreciate it Girlfriend without a clue
Mr. Foxen
Start with what you want it to look like. Main thing is the quality of the finish on the wood (sanding basically) is what determines the quality of the end finish. Oil is the easiest, start with a smooth sanding, and a danish oil finish goes on easy, might not be done by Christmas though.
Musky
Guitar ReRanch is pretty much the best site I've come across for info on stripping and repainting an instrument. They've got a forum as well which is very useful and worth skimming through for tips and any questions that might not be covered in the 101 section. Time and patience are requisites for doing a good job!
bassatnight
I have often thought about having a refinsh job done, I personally would pay for it to get done by a pro.
