I guess that ends the debate as to whether it is pronounced Lak-land (like I thought) or Lak[u]e[/u]-land.

Well, as is explained on the Lākland website, it's named after Dan [b]Lak[/b]in (pronounced 'lake-in') and Hugh MacFar[b]land[/b]. That's why there is a macron over the first 'a' (e.g. Lākland) on the headstocks.
