God I Love Jazz Funk!

Jeff played some old stuff to, from the Danny Wilson days. Randy Brecker and Eric Marienthal on brass, no Kenny G and Will Kennedy and Jimmy Haslip getting double pay as the rhythm section for both bands.

After the show we got to talk to Jeff and asked him if he knew what happened to Danny Wilson and he had no clue.

I hate to say it but if it were not for jazz,funk or reggae,soul,fusion,i wouldnt bother playing bass i would have picked up a guitar instead...i did at one point and still do if i feel like rockin out.

Most Jazz-Funk I'll pass on, as it tends to have a lack of oomph / balls (which in my opinion is necessary for funk, as opposed to something being 'funky'). I'd rather listen to straight jazz then. 'A-bit-Funky-Jazz' is probably a closer description...

But then you get Herbie and the Headhunters (separately and together), which I would call Jazz-Funk, and I bloody love that.

Cant understand it when people when i hear "well i dont like it because it doesnt have the oomph of funk....well its not funk..and its not Jazz...

i personally love it...im talking Lonnie Liston Smith,Ronnie Laws, Oh there is too many damn them..

I'd bet its nowt to do with "Digging" up "Cats" or indeed saying "Cool"or"Groovy" or "Crazy" in a serious way, and the like.

Are you looking at me...?
I prefer my funk heavy and my jazz straight, which is why I'm pretty ambivalent about 'jazz-funk'. Obviously there are exceptions (Lonnie LS being a top one), but I wouldn't think of that as 'jazz-funk'. Not sure what I would call it.

Put it another way, I prefer my 'jazz-funk' to be heavy on the groove, rather than changes and choruses in a 'funky' style. (Although I've been very guilty of just that in the past! )

Never could stand Streetlife but was forced to play it enough times. Maybe that's the problem..

I think everybody likes Expansions. It's like everybody likes Roy Ayers and Gil Scott Heron. But logic doesn't dictate that those people will find anything likeable about Incognito.



I don't know if that counts as jazz-funk, but whatever it is, it is awesome.

Ha!..i know what you mean, but when i hear that tune i think of "Change"...maybe its just me...very groove to me..not to much jazz there IMHO... oh the line is hard to define!!
